Springdale School News

It was a busy Autumn term at Springdale!

We had some special event days as well as a range of trips and visitors. Our Year 3 children loved learning about Stone Age

times and after a very informative visit to Stonehenge the children created their own museum exhibits.

Moving further forward in history, Year 4 had a great time learning about life in Roman times, including why the Romans invaded Britain and why they

settled here. Boudicca’s exploits became a fi rm favourite.

We are fortunate to have beautiful, spacious grounds at school, and an outdoor learning week proved the perfect opportunity to be out and about as much of the time as possible. Children engaged

in a range of nature activities, including learning the names of trees, plants and birds which are local to us and environmental art. Probably the best loved activity was den making, where they showed great skills and innovation.

Encouraging the children to take part in competitive sport is very important to us, and a football gala for girls enabled them to learn lots of team skills and to play in competitive matches. We’re looking forward to many

more sporting events during the year. Advertise in the Family Pages

We bid a nostalgic goodbye to Mrs Ruth Leach in December. Mrs Leach has been the Headteacher at Springdale First School for ten years.

Her inspirational presence is highly respected by children, staff, governors and many other professionals that have

had the opportunity to work alongside her.

Throughout her ten years at Springdale First School, Mrs Leach has ensured that every child has felt valued and have achieved the very best that they can. Her passion and determination are commendable and this has enabled Springdale to be outstanding in everything that they do.

Mrs Leach has supported many local community events throughout the years including parades, carnivals and local charities and the school was very proud when she was asked to switch on the Christmas lights in Broadstone in December.

She will be greatly missed by children, staff and parents and we wish her good luck and a very happy retirement.

The appointment of Mrs Susannah Hill as the new Headteacher heralds a new dawn for Springdale First School. Mrs Hill joins Springdale from Swanage Primary School, where she has been Headteacher for two years. Prior to this appointment, Mrs Hill has had a range of experience including working for the local authority leading EYFS as well as being Deputy Head at local primary schools.

All the staff, parents and children at the school wish Mrs Hill many happy years in her new role and success in leading the children on their exciting learning journey.
