Member Section ...any other business A roundup of news from Chamber members

...any other business is a new page designed to help satisfy the huge demand the Chamber gets from members seeking to publicise their activities in our publications. We have now moved company appointments to our daily bulletin, ChamberlinkDaily, which goes out every morning to nearly 17,000 business and individuals across the West Midlands.

In Brief

A communications firm has launched a media centre in Blackpole, Worcestershire, to help local firms get their message across. The centre is the brainchild of

Chris Green Media (CGM) and will host a range of training courses. Managing partner Chris Green

said: “We’ve run media training courses for several years but wanted our own purpose-built, media themed venue to provide a unique training experience. “The centre isn’t about us -

it’s about the people who come here to develop ideas and skills to advance their careers and grow their businesses.”

A multi-award-winning chartered accountancy firm has taken on extra space within 54 Hagley Road, Edgbaston, following a period of growth. Salhan Accountants, which

currently operates from the 15th floor of the Grade A office complex, agreed a new eight- year lease for an additional 2,670 sq ft of space on the third floor of the East Wing at £18 per sq ft. The company provides a

number of accounting services including forensic accountancy, tax litigation and asset protection services covering creditors, divorce, litigation, Sharia law and high net worth persons. Dr Anjulika Salhan, director of

Salhan Accountants, said: “Our recent expansion at 54 Hagley Road and our new offices in Worcester illustrate the commitment we are making to the continued development of Salhan Accountants.” George Jennings, of GVA, joint

agent for 54 Hagley Road, said: “We are absolutely delighted to see one of our valued tenants grow within the building. This is a win-win all round, a great result for 54 Hagley Road and a happy occupier.” 54 Hagley Road received a

£100,000 refurbishment in 2016, undertaken by landlord Opus Land, transforming its reception area and reconfiguring its on- site café and dining area.

Al Rayan chief executive receives royal recognition

Arise, Sir Sultan! Well not quite, but Al Rayan Bank chief Sultan Choudhury was at Buckingham Palace recently in the presence of royalty to receive his Order of the British Empire (OBE). Mr Choudhury – chief executive of the Birmingham

based Islamic bank – received the award from the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William. The award was made for Mr Choudhury’s services to

Islamic finance. He was accompanied to the investiture by his wife, three children and father. It was Mr Choudhury who was part of the management team that obtained the licence for the bank, back in 2004 – at the time, Al Rayan was Western Europe’s first authorised Islamic bank. Al Rayan is now the UK’s largest Islamic bank, and

one of the fastest growing in the country. Al Rayan Bank’s experts have worked with the UK

government on initiatives that have helped to establish the country as a major global centre for Islamic finance, through the creation of a legal, regulatory and taxation environment in which Sharia compliant finance can compete on an equal footing with conventional. Al Rayan Bank says it offers the largest Sharia

compliant product range in the UK. It is founded on faith-based, ethical principles which are derived from trade, entrepreneurship and risk-sharing, in which the customer and bank work together as partners towards a mutually profitable end.

Charity brings light to Brindleyplace

Local charity Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice has quite literally lit up Christmas at the city’s Brindleyspace development. The hospice has held its annual

‘Light up a Life’ ceremony at Oozells Square, which is aimed at remembering loved ones lost at Christmas, with the lights symbolising the lives of those no longer with us. The event featured live music,

including contributions by The Town Hall Gospel Choir and The Uptone Girls, which is a a student choir from the University of Birmingham that recently competed in BBC One’s Pitch Battle. Before the event, there was an opportunity to honour loved ones
