Name: Johnathan Dudley
Company: Crowe Clark Whitehill
Job Title: Midlands Managing Partner and Head of Manufacturing Business
What does your company do? Crowe is a leading national audit, tax and advisory firm. We are the UK member of Crowe Horwath International, the eighth largest global professional services network.
How did it all start? It started in the Midlands in the 19th Century, when Whitehill and Whitehill first opened their business in Birmingham.
What’s your greatest achievement so far? I have had a number of highlights in my career, but the proudest moments are where I have helped clients build their businesses from small beginnings to real successes.
What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken – and did it work out? The biggest risk I have taken is making the move to make our two offices in to one, and yes I can proudly say this has worked well.
What keeps you awake at night? I often wake in the small hours with ideas and thoughts running through my head. I always say the best thinking is done at that time!
If you could turn the clock back, what would you do differently? I would have spent more with my father understanding the trials and tribulations on how he ran the family business before he passed away.
What has surprised you most in your job? The capacity of our people to think, develop themselves and make a
success of their lives, regardless of their educational background.
What advice would you give to someone starting out? Always check that your business idea genuinely has competitive advantage before you even start.
Which business do you most admire? I would have to say Jaguar Land Rover. They have grown tremendously over the past few years, all down to their core values.
What exciting projects is your business working on? Project Courageous - a wide ranging IT project to work through the cloud system. This will revolutionise the way we work with our clients.
What made you join Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and how are you making use of your membership? I am very proud to come from the Midlands and over the last couple of years I have been more involved with our international network and international trade. When you are dealing with companies across the world, the Greater Birmingham brand, our local businesses and history, the ethos of our working people, is definitely something to shout about. Being a Chamber member also gives Crowe the opportunity to give something back to the business community that we have served for almost 130 years.

Excitation & Engineering Services (EES) started business in 2011 as consultants to the power industry specialising in excitation control systems. Their business activity includes consultancy, training, design, commissioning, repair and servicing of excitation systems and associated equipment.
EES recently commissioned three generators and control systems for a floating oil production unit (FPU) offshore Africa. The project began in South Korea in 2016 where EES performed initial testing and then continued in early 2017 when the FUP was towed to Pointe Noire in the Republic of Congo.
Closer to home, EES recently designed new excitation systems for SSE to replace obsolete equipment at their Storr Lochs Power Station. The equipment was installed earlier this year and commissioning is being performed by EES during November.
