[WRE UPDATE | BUSINESS] Queensferry Crossing Officially Opens


> The Queensferry Crossing, featured in the September- October 2016 Issue of Wire Rope Exchange, opened to traffic on August 30. According to the Forth Bridges website (www.theforthbridges.org), Police Scotland directed the first traffic from the Forth Bridge Road just before 3am to make the facility fully operational. Of course, moving some traffic cones in the bleary-


eyed hours of the night is hardly sufficient to mark the opening of a once-in-a-generation structure. At the weekend traffic returned to the older Forth Bridge once again in order to accommodate official opening events taking place on the new bridge. Organized by Transport Scotland and the Scottish


Government, the Queensferry Crossing Experience offered an opportunity for up to 50,000 people to walk across the spectacular new bridge. The Experience was staged over both days of the weekend of September 2-3, and participants were selected from among 250,000

reported by the BBC to have submitted a ballot. The new bridge has no pedestrian facilities in normal operation.

the new Queensferry Crossing exactly 53 years after she opened the nearby Forth Road Bridge, according to a BBC report. She cut a ribbon, and traveled across the bridge by car where she gave a speech and dedicated a plaque. y
