24 | THE NEW NY BRIDGE NEARS COMPLETION Te Tappan Zee Bridge served travelers between Rockland and Westchester counties in the northern suburbs of New York City for over six decades. But at long last its demolition is underway, having been relieved of its duties by one of two new adjacent spans across the Hudson river. We look back at a few of the many milestones that have marked more than four years of work.

30 | MAKING COMPLEX INSURANCE CLAIMS SIMPLE

After a season that saw four hurricanes make landfall in the U.S., we take a look into the world of heavy equipment insurance claims. Howard (J.R.) Bristow founded Truck & Equipment Specialists in 1978, and since that time the business has grown into a comprehensive claims adjusting and appraisal service for a wide range of industries. He’s seen a thing or two, and shares some valuable insight with us.

ON THE COVER: The first steel girder assembly to be placed on the replacement for the Tappan Zee bridge is lowered into place by the I Lift NY super crane in June of 2015. This 410-foot long assembly, the first of 134 to be delivered, was assembled 95 miles upriver using roughly 6,000 bolts. Officially named the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, the project is now handling all of the traffic previously served by the outdated Tappan Zee, and is slated for on-time and

on-budget completion in 2018. Photos courtesy of the New York State Thruway Authority. Wire Rope Exchange
