and IC process specific application. These will in turn integrate with critical business systems and foundry management systems in the execution of related tasks.

What Impact Will This Have on the Serviceability of the Equipment? Improved serviceability is already a key element of IoT integration.

Individual

pieces of equipment are equipped to monitor performance and duty cycles. Service intervals are extended when the duty cycles are reduced, and inbuilt gyroscopic sensors monitor loading conditions and issue alerts or adjust duty parameters to maintain the equipment in optimum performance condition. All of this will provide lower service

costs, improved up time, reduced parts inventory, and equally important, the performance data analytics to enable further engineering development of the process critical machines in our industry.

How Will That Impact the Total IC Process? All segments of the IC process will likely take up the IoT technology and the total process connectivity will be greatly en- hanced.

Aerospace, Medical, Precision Commer- cial, will have preferred infrastructure connectivity and security requirements, and evolution of industrial standards in these areas will likely determine the rate at which the IoT power will be released.

Where Do We Go from Here? The easiest path is to do nothing, or stand by and ‘wait and see’. The reality is that these technologies are being developed and rolled out across our domestic and industrial lives, and incoming generations of employees and employers will expect and require this level of technology to support and assist them to meet their expectations. In the short term, we can expect to

usage, reduced Energy usage and greater Predictability in the process, and the quest for zero defect in the production of complex shapes and materials becomes

a nearer attainable reality. In the coming years, with the

knowledge captured, and IoT technology developed and effectively applied, we can expect to see IC industry become the technology center of the casting industry and the enabling force in the production of barely imaginable shapes, sizes, accuracies and metal compositions of every type. Enabling employees to act quickly,

easily, and in an informed way, enables companies to gain a competitive advantage. Applied across our industry, this adds to enable us to stay ahead of the competing industries, and positions us to create and sustain the operating cultures to keep us ahead.
