Manifold Body Casting Takes Aerospace Casting Award M

ultiple core passages, tight tolerances and grade B metallurgical requirements make this part ideal for

investment casting. “The number and complexity of the internal core passages in this casting allow our customer to decrease the overall size and number of pieces in the manifold assembly. Instead of multiple pieces with less complex geometries being assembled together, this one piece investment casting saves them weight and eliminates future failure points at the assembly location,” Jake Robben of O’Fallon Casting described. To access the internal core passages, weld plug openings

were incorporated into the design. The original design for this casting had as many as 19 openings that needed to be welded shut prior to delivering the casting. Through the investment casting process and design optimizations, O’Fallon Casting was able to help the customer reduce the number of weld openings to 4, which saved the customer cost and provided a more robust product.

Throttle Lever Wins Marine Casting Award T

his marine throttle lever is a high performance investment casting that requires minimum secondary operations.

“This is a transfer tool, given to us so we could produce investment castings that meet our customer’s quality requirements and budget,” Rei Teruyoshi, Project Engineer of Fansteel Intercast explained. This intricate design is quite costly to produce by any other metalworking process. Post-casting operation prior to releasing to the customer includes a solution anneal heat treatment.

PART: Throttle Lever Size: 10.5 x 5” Alloy: 316 Notes: Intricate casting design exceeds quality and budget requirements.
