Institute Presents Intern Scholarship Awards 2017 WINNERS
ow in it's 8th year, the Investment Casting Institute awarded five university students who completed internships with Member companies scholarships at
The scholarship intern program is designed to encourage
students to find careers in the investment casting industry and addresses a strategic goal of the Institute to encourage more graduates to work in the industry. Scholarship awards are based on academic performance,
work quality, experience and the expressed desire to pursue a career in the investment casting industry. Qualified students must be juniors or seniors majoring in engineering and technology, business and personnel, or environment and safety. They must maintain a grade point average of 2.75 or above on a 4.0 scale and submit a copy of their transcripts. Each applicant is required to write a 500-word career objective statement.

manager must also provide a brief letter of support. The 2017 recipients were Jonathan
Tyler Banka, Joshua Dorn, Sean Duann, Matthew Higgins and Jessica Horsley. For further information about the
Jonathan Tyler Banka
is a senior studying Manufacturing Engineering Technology at Pittsburg State University. He is currently working as an intern at A. W. Bell in Melbourne, Australia. During the internship, he is focused primarily in the foundry and wax room, running trials to reduce shell cracking and inclusions within the shells.
Sean Duann
is a 4th year Materials Science Engineering student at Ohio State. He worked at Arconic Power & Propulsion to reduce the rate of waste production of ceramic products at the site's special materials department by improving the quality and output rate of ceramic products.

Joshua Dorn
is a senior at Michigan Technological University, studying Materials Science and Engineering. He has held internships in the automotive and iron casting industries before interning at Arconic, where he worked with nickel superalloy investment casting for the aerospace industry.

Matthew Higgins
is from Longmont, Colorado. This year is his third year at Purdue University studying Materials Science and Engineering. In the Summer of 2017, he interned for Arconic Power and Propulsion’s Howmet Research Center. As a Process Engineer Intern, he assisted in resolving plant production issues and defining standards.
is a senior mechanical engineering student at Mount Vernon
Jessica Horsley Nazarene
University.
She began working within the investment casting industry her junior year of college. Jessica completed an internship at Eagle Engineered Solutions and currently works for the company part time.
