Dartmouth Food Festival - 2017 New Business Award
At the Festival we’re always looking at ways to help new businesses get a leg up the ladder, so 2017 saw us launch our New Business Start-up Award. The standard of entries was very high and we would like to thank each and every company that took the time to enter. The judging panel deliberated for ages and it was hard to choose a winner from such great entries, but of course we had to and in the end the award was given to:
Open Sesame: a Persian Street Food company and a family run business that supports five catering students in work. Their stand has been hand built by themselves using up-cycled materials and their packaging is compostable and recyclable. Crucially, they only use locally sourced ingredients and always support other local independents wherever they can.
Claire & Christian Mincher are the husband and wife team at the helm and moved to the South West from Birmingham in 2013 in search of a different way of life for their young family. When Christian found himself out of work in 2014 he knew drastic action was needed to take care of his family, and having always had an interest in food he decided to switch career completely, enrolled on a Chefs course in France, and after several tweaks and changes, Open Sesame was born! Claire and Chris were delighted with the award: “To win the New Business Start
Up Award is a complete thrill, and totally unexpected. We are just doing something we love, and hopefully making a small difference by supporting different people along the way, and so to be recognised for this means a lot to us both. We both love Dartmouth - it’s such a beautiful place. We cannot wait to come to the food festival and share our passion for Persian inspired food with your lovely visitors!”
