The Game of Kings
To the untrained eye, it was a footnote beneath a host of impressive new developments at The Mead School this September under new headmaster, Andrew Webster. The introduction of a Chess Club isn’t article worthy, is it? Well, consider the breadth of learning that takes place during an apprenticeship in chess. Patience; strategy; gamesmanship; forethought; knowing when sacrifi ce can lead to greater reward. Perhaps most importantly, as Kipling put it, to learn to meet both those imposters (Triumph and Disaster) and treat them just the same. Chess teaches children the resilience and adaptability needed to thrive in the modern world. If a footnote can do all this, then the fundamentals of this new era for the school will surely bring great rewards for all Meadites. • Visit

Brickletots do Messy Mondays!
After the successful launch of our music group last year, we are introducing creative play sessions for babies and young children aged six months to three years old. The little ones can squelch,
pour, mix, splat and have fun. All you have to do is come along and leave the cleaning up to us! Babies and toddlers are given
the freedom to move around at their own pace and explore the prepared activities, which are created to encourage children’s natural curiosity.
The sessions are held at Bricklehurst Manor School by our Early Years Teacher every Monday afternoon at 2pm during term time and last up to an hour. Only eight places are available so booking is essential.
Contact the school on 01580 200448 for more information and to reserve your place. • Bricklehurst Manor School & Kindergarten, Bardown Road, Stonegate, Wadhurst, East Sussex TN5 7EL, or visit the website
