@CanterburyIndex BUSINESS NEWS Next step in regeneration of

Northern Sevenoaks Sevenoaks Town Council believes the refurbishment of the Bat & Ball Station building is key to the masterplan for the regeneration of Northern Sevenoaks. For the past year it has been working

on a project that has achieved planning permission and listed building consent to refurbish the boarded up station building to provide a cafe, public toilets and community rooms.

It has also undertaken negotiations with Southeastern and Network Rail for a 25-year peppercorn lease, which have now been completed. The project has successfully passed

through a Stage 1 Heritage Lottery Fund application and the Stage 2 Application has also been submitted. If successful, the refurbishment project would be carried out between January-September 2018. If unsuccessful, the town council will restore the building as and when funds are available. A decision is due on 1st December.

In addition to the station building, the town council is continuing with the development of the new Bat & Ball Centre building, which is on the opposite side of the railway line. Within this development there will be an opportunity to provide a fl at access to the London- bound platform of the station.

Giving back to the community

Kent funeral directors Welham Jones are commemorating 25 years in business by fundraising for charities in multiples of 25 over the next year, for example 25 care assistant days or 25 home nurse visits. The family-run fi rm, which has seven local branches – Borough Green, Chelsfi eld, Chislehurst, Sevenoaks, Swanley, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells – has been helping people celebrate the lives of loved ones since they fi rst opened in Sevenoaks in 1992. They launched the 25 for 25 initiative exactly 25 years to the day since the original branch opened in Sevenoaks at an open day at the Tunbridge Wells Crematorium, where the company exhibited and offered rides in a horse-drawn hearse. • Anyone who would like to nominate a charity for 25 for 25 should contact Simon Welham on 01732 808308 or email simon.welham@welhamjones.co.uk
