114 PROPERTY NEWS Excellent schools draw homebuyers to Kent
With the first few weeks of the school term done and dusted, Year 6 pupils having sat the Kent Test for a potential Year 7 place at one of the county’s grammar schools and the countdown to the October half-term underway, Tonbridge-based Millwood Designer Homes’ Managing Director John Elliott explains why excellent local schools are drawing homebuyers to Kent.
SCHOOLS ARE
“The location of good local schools is an essential factor for people when buying a home, to suit their children’s needs both now and in the future. For some time, Kent has enjoyed an excellent reputation for first-class secondary education and is home to some of the best grammar schools in the country. “The competition for an address within the catchment area of a popular secondary school creates lively demand amongst not only parents, but investors also. Schools are certainly a huge pull factor for many families looking to buy in Kent as they are drawn by exemplary secondary state, private and grammar schools located in and around Maidstone and Tonbridge in particular. “Meeting this
strong demand and providing much- needed new homes in this area, our three new developments make up the ‘Kent Collection’ and are

perfectly located within the catchment areas of some of the region’s best schools. Windsor Meadow in Marden, The Old Orchard in Sutton Valence and Brambledown in Maidstone offer beautiful family homes and will appeal to parents looking to be spoilt by the excellent choice of education options in Kent. To name a few, Oakwood Park Grammar School and Maidstone Grammar school are both rated outstanding by Ofsted. Parents looking for private education options will find Sutton Valence School and Bethany School are close to The Old Orchard in Brambledown and Windsor Meadow in Marden.
“Over the years, school catchment
areas have enjoyed their own property price bubble offering some security against the wider fluctuating property market. Homebuyers are also drawn to the attraction of living in a thriving village community, surrounded by open countryside with good transport links in central London.”

Local ‘Pride in the Job’ winners
Four Kent-based site managers were among a record number of Redrow employees to receive a prestigious Pride in the Job ‘Quality’ award from the NHBC (National House Building Council) – and between them Ian Day, Zara Fairman, Andy Pearson and Bob Reardon have won 11 ‘Quality’ awards in their careers so far.
Former carpenter Andy Pearson has been a site manager for more than 15 years. He joined Redrow last year and has received his first ‘Quality’ award for overseeing construction at the Ebbsfleet Green development, part of the Ebbsfleet Garden City scheme. Meanwhile, it’s four in a row for St
Andrews Park in Halling, where Zara Fairman has won two consecutive awards to add to the two won by former site manager Mike Tynan. And not to be outdone, both Ian Day and Bob Reardon have four ‘Quality’ Awards under their belts. Ian, who has worked in the construction industry for more than 20 years, oversees up to 100 people working on site at The Parsonage in Marden while Bob, who is based at The Fairways in Herne Bay, has worked in the industry for 35 years. Along with four ‘Quality’ awards, he is also a previous Seal of Excellence winner.
On song for new development
The highly-praised London choir Vivamus performed at St Mildred’s Church in Tenterden in a concert sponsored by Dandara New Homes. The concert featured a wide range of musical styles, including a movement from a Mozart symphony that was sung rather than played by musical instruments. It also incorporated pieces by Eric
Whitacre, Morten Lauridsen, Vaughan Williams, John Rutter and George Gershwin. Susie Bennett, Dandara’s
Sales Director (UK and South East), said: “We are delighted to sponsor this concert and help to bring the Vivamus to Tenterden. With the launch of Dandara’s new Church View development set to take place soon, we
wanted to show our support for the local community.”
Situated on Six Fields Path, Church View will offer two,
three, four and five-bedroom homes, plus one and two- bedroom apartments.
