coSt rEdUctIon SErvIcE Key to ensuring business profitability is keeping a cap on business costs or if possible by reducing costs. for many businesses, this means investing time and effort reviewing the market, getting testimonials from other customers, ensuring the deal offered provides value for money.

to help members achieve meaningful savings without the time and effort normally spent, Uca has engaged a cost reduction Specialist. John mcgowan of Specialist cost auditors will help members achieve savings across a range of business expenditure and look at ways to boost profitability. John has already worked with a number of Uca member pharmacies with some fantastic results.

the Uca cost reduction Service has achieved the following average savings for member pharmacies: • Insurance costs 40% • merchant Services costs 30% • telephone costs 35% • Electricity costs 10% • Employment costs 2.5% • Stationery costs 15%

Within financial services, partner suppliers cover auto enrolment pensions, tax liabilities and wealth management products and we are hoping to arrange some seminars on financial services support in the year ahead.

how does it work? very simple - John contacts you, assesses your expenditure and signposts you to a suitable partner supplier, who will provide you with a bespoke quotation. John or the partner supplier may need to meet with you

to discuss your requirements before a quote is made. most importantly, there is no obligation and no cost to Uca members. our service frees you up to take care of the many others tasks you have as a business owner and emphasis is placed on reliability, great quality service and competitive pricing.

Killyleagh pharmacist Ian gabbie was one of the first pharmacists to take advantage of the service by switching his merchant services over to the Uca deal. Ian was very happy with both the service and the price.

‘the installer did exactly what he said he would do, the switch-over in the shop was very smooth and I now have a new up-to-date wireless terminal. any issues were dealt with very quickly and the savings over the year should be significant. all I had to do was sign a form and put the kettle on using the tea-bag they gave me – I thought that was a great touch!’

ogILvIE fLEEt Uca has arranged an affinity deal with ogilvie fleet for contract hire on pharmacy vans complete with internal racking and oxygen cylinder holder plus contribution towards bespoke signage.

here's what last year's cohort had to say...

'the biggest benefit is that the course doesn’t just provide knowledge, but that the students come back with insight and understanding, as well as plenty of questions. the course is very practical and gives a very holistic overview.’ Stephen Edgar, pre-reg tutor, dunluce Pharmacy

'Uca has helped me develop a proper aim that I want to achieve at the end of my pre-registration and got me to properly prepare for the exam so that I wouldn't panic when the day came. one thing I like most about the Uca is the support you get from Sharon and mairead and the mock test they make you do every sess. It really helps to build your path as a well-qualified pharmacist.' Pei Kai tan, pre-reg student
