PainBuild Cooper’s Pharmacy Belfast Focus on business

‘Thanks to Careway’s training and the Pain Build, we’re ensuring that our patients are kept fully informed on the medication that they’re taking’

Careway ambassadors call in on a monthly, pre- organised basis and take the staff for training on a specific subject. The feedback from the staff has been fantastic, especially with regard to the fact that they are able to refresh their knowledge while still operating in a busy environment. The fact that the training is regular and ongoing gives it a dynamic quality that really appeals to the staff and keeps the enthusiasm going.

When Cooper’s Pharmacy on Belfast’s Andersonstown Road decided to join Careway eight months ago, pharmacist Michael Cooper knew that the model would certainly be of benefit to the business. But even he has been impressed by the format and the quality of the training that Careway has provided for his staff.

‘Every business owner knows how important their team is to the business’ success,’ he said. ‘That is particularly true for pharmacies, where patients are coming in for advice, reassurance and support, and so it is vital that are staff are empowered and educated to such a degree that they are able to provide this. Careway focuses on enabling staff to match the right product to the right patient. The

Fullarton Pharmacy Belfast

Fullarton Pharmacy at St George's Market recently relaunched with a new, state-of-the-art pharmacy renovation. The meticulously planned layout affords the pharmacy extra space to offer additional healthcare services to the community.

One excellent example of maximising shop floor space is the incorporation of the new Careway Pain Build section, which dedicates two full bays of shelving to managing all areas of pain relief.

‘Careway has done a tremendous job with design and branding to produce a very modern, user- friendly pain relief section, which fits perfectly in our newly-renovated pharmacy,’ says Fullarton Pharmacy owner, Carole Anne Fullarton-Healey.

‘The Pain Build compliments our desire to modernise and maximise the use of space in our pharmacy with the introduction of two key features. Firstly, the use of strong, transparent locked boxes allows us to display P pain relief medication, which is normally kept behind the counter, alongside GSL pain relief medication in one strategic location on the shop floor where it's more visible to patients visiting our pharmacy.

‘The second helpful feature is the Careway pain relief self-assessment chart, which has icons that help patients to quickly assess and articulate the level of pain that they are experiencing.

‘It's early days, but the Careway Pain Build section has been one of the busiest sections of our pharmacy and has received very positive feedback from patients for its modern, professional branding’

‘Relaunching a pharmacy is an exciting and complicated experience and Careway's professional approach - in particular that of Tracy Elmes - reassured us that we were all heading in the right direction and were very strategically focused on modernising and maximising the limited space available in our new pharmacy shop floor.

‘It's early days, but the Careway Pain Build section has been one of the busiest sections of our pharmacy and has received very positive feedback from patients for its modern, professional branding. More importantly, its easy-to-use pain relief assessment icons make communicating levels of pain and pain relief' requirements far less stressful.’

‘One of the training modules has been specifically on pain and we’ve found that this has been particularly relevant for the Pain Build Careway module. Pain management is a huge driver for patients engaging with community pharmacy and so it is vital that the patient is matched with the right medicine. Thanks to Careway’s training and the Pain Build, we’re ensuring that our patients are kept fully informed on the medication that they’re taking.’
