East Midlands’ great and good named on birthday honours list
A number of individuals closely associated with the Chamber have been recognised for their contribution to the business community in the recent Queen’s Birthday Honours list. The annual Queen’s Birthday
Honours list recognises the achievements of a wide range of people from across the UK. In total, 1,109 people are listed in the 2017 Queen’s Birthday Honours, of whom 438 are named a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), 221 an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), with 303 individuals awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM). Recipients in 2017 include Dr Nik
Kotecha, who receives an OBE for services to Entrepreneurship, Innovation in Pharmaceutical Services and Philanthropy. Nik is CEO of Chamber strategic
partner Morningside Pharmaceuticals and also Chair of the Chamber’s International Trade Steering Group.

‘The Chamber’s congratulations go out to Nik, Chan, Peter and Nora’
Chan Kataria, CEO of East Midlands Housing (emh) Group, a Chamber member, is awarded an OBE in acknowledgement of his significant contribution to the housing sector and communities. Chairman of Chamber member
the National Space Centre, Mike Kapur, is awarded an OBE for services to Science, Technology, Business and Enterprise. Peter Richardson, a long-
standing supporter of the Chamber and Chair of the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) - which operates out of the Chamber offices in Derby and Nottingham - has also been awarded an OBE, for services to enterprise and growth. Etheleen Wigley, founder of Chamber member Children First Derby, is honoured with an MBE for services to vulnerable children in Derby.
Finally, Nora Senior, immediate
past-president of the British Chambers of Commerce, is recognised with a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to business. Scott Knowles, Chief Executive at
the East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire), said: “The Chamber’s congratulations go out to Nik, Chan, Mike, Peter, Etheleen and Nora; such acknowledgment is richly deserved. To be named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours is a significant achievement and I am delighted that their exceptional contributions to business have been recognised.”
