LLEP announces appointment of board members
The Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) has announced the appointment of five board members for the next three years. Four board members have been
appointed for a second three-year term: Andrew Cliffe - Managing Director at East Midlands Airport, Jaspal Singh Minhas - Managing Director at Electrical Design & MFG Co, Dr Sharon Redrobe OBE - CEO at Twycross Zoo and Kevin Harris - Vice-Chair of the LLEP. The LLEP is one of 38 local
economic partnerships (LEPs) in the country, led by the business community to spearhead local economic development. As with D2N2 – the LEP for Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire - it works closely with the Chamber. Four of the five recently- announced new board members represent organisations that are members of the Chamber and one of them, Dr Sharon Redrobe OBE, was named Inspirational Woman of the Year at the Chamber’s Enterprising Women Awards 2017 back in March ahead of dozens of nominations for the accolade. The LLEP board is made up of a
chair and seven private sector members, the city mayor, leader of
the county council, two district council leaders, the vice-chancellor of one of the three universities and a principal of one of the further education colleges. The LLEP board plays an important role by shaping the strategy for growth, making key investment decisions and acting as ambassadors for Leicester and Leicestershire at a local, national and international level. Kevin said: “I am delighted to
have been re-appointed to the LLEP board for a second term and am looking forward to continuing the great progress achieved to date. Given the challenges facing the UK economy in the next three
years it is vital that Leicester and Leicestershire has a strong LLEP board and I am honoured to serve as part of it." Sharon said: “I am delighted to

Chamber Chief Executive reacts to Queen’s Speech
Responding to the measures announced in the recent Queen’s Speech, Scott Knowles, Chief Executive of the Chamber, said: “The Government’s proposed bills on trade, customs and immigration related to Brexit must minimise costs and maximise opportunities, and it’s essential that the real life experiences of businesses in the East Midlands informs this. “While Brexit negotiations will inevitably form the
backdrop against which the economy performs over the coming months, our members concerns relate more strongly to domestic issues that remain in our gift to control – much of which can be delivered without new primary legislation. “As we look to demonstrate the UK as being a place for investment and where business gets done, it is

essential we inject momentum into major local and national infrastructure schemes that have been agreed and announced. We need to cut back on the high up- front costs that businesses face – around things such as business rates and employment – and move forward with an Industrial Strategy that recognises the strengths that East Midlands businesses bring to the national economy. “Uncertainty is a killer of confidence. Businesses
want to see a functioning and capable Government able to deliver on the day-to-day priorities of businesses and communities as well as handle the strategic discussions that must now take place. A strong partnership between Government and business must be a cornerstone of enabling this to happen.”
