A big salute


A big salute to the Penistone Armed Forces Day Show which raised £11,500 through entry fees which will help them put on a two day weekend event next June.


The first event of its kind in


Penistone, the day in June was a great success with thousands of visitors to the show including 94-year-old Ted Robinson who landed on Gold Beach in 1944. Staring off with a parade, there was army training activities by TeamActiv to get the kids ready for a military career as well as tin can shooting by the Airborne veterans. Civil War soldiers from both the Roundheads and Cavaliers set up camp and brought their sky-high pikes, metal armour and gunpowder muskets ready to defend Charles I.


The bellow of the mighty 25lb field gun was heard right down to Barnsley Town Hall – sorry Mayor! And a Spitfire took to the skies for a Battle of Britain Memorial flyover.
