JULY 2017: ISSUE 100

Representatives of the Club travelled to Perth Airport, Scone, on Tuesday 13th June to deliver a donation to the Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance. President Ewen Allan and President Elect John Spittal presented a cheque for £500 to the organisation, which is funded total ly by donations. On accepting the cheque, SCAA Regional Fundraiser Helen MacGregor said the donation was invaluable, as the Charity responded to emergency calls on average at least once every day. During the visit they were able to speak to members of the flight crew and have a good look round the helicopter as at waited on ‘hot standby’ for the next call. Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) was formed in 2012 and launched their helicopter air ambulance in May 2013 to assist the Scottish Air Ambulance Service (SAAS) to deliver front- l ine care to t ime-c ri t i c al emergencies across Scotland.

SCAA

provides a fully equipped medical helicopter that can be deployed from its central base at Perth Airport to incidents across the length and breadth of Scotland. Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance works in close cooperation with the Scottish Ambulance Service who provide the paramedic staff that crew the helicopter. We chatted to the very enthusiastic paramedic staff who have to undergo a rigorous selection process and specialist training before they can operate on the helicopter. Interesting the rescues performed in North East Fife have typically been incidents on the coastal path and horse riding. With an average callout of one per day, 1300 over the 3 ½ years, this is a valuable service to our community and

one we are proud to support. submitted by John Spittal
