Welcome to the one hundredth edition of Kilrymont Klips. It is hard to believe that away back in 2008 when I asked if the Club had ever had a Newsletter and offered to do a trial run that I would still be doing the job, and enjoying it, 9 years later. Initially it was to be a quarterly magazine and the first issue ran to 2 sides but the next 2 were much larger. However as my ‘skills’ in desk top publishing developed, Rotary news and Club projects increased and the readership extended to non-Rotarians, it was decided in July 2009 that it should be published monthly. And so here we are at 100. In this issue you will find, thanks to Isobel Clifford’s web surfing, a number of facts about the number 100. I hope you find them interesting.


And to start a little competition.


The words ‘‘hundred’’ and ‘‘century’’ apparently come from the same root, kmtom, which became satam in Sanskrit, centum in Latin, hekaton in Greek and – somehow – hunda in the Germanic languages.


The following words all mean 100, but in which European language? There will be a small prize for the first person who sends in a list of the correct answers by the 24th August.

And finally, I am always looking for copy from members. If you organise a club event or attend some Rotary function run by another Club or District it would be great to have a story and/or photo from you. Equally, if anyone has any ideas for things they would like to see included in the future, please let me know.
