Tuesday 13th was the also the Club Assembly, and we had Assistant Governor elect, John Holme from Auchterarder who gave his comments on our programme for the year ahead, which President Elect John, took us through ably. Thursday 15th along with Isobel and Grace, I went along to St Leonards School, where we were joined by Gordon Wowk from St Andrews Club and Donald Stewart the District Coordinator for Young Photographer to hand over certificates and prize monies to 2 girls and one boy, who had won prizes in the Competition. On Tuesday 20th, John Fernie was the speaker for the evening whose subject covered the trends in the retail sector and on line shopping, which proved to be very interesting. I’m not so keen though on the fact that they can ‘track’ your every movement whilst you are in the shop through your phone. The 27th - well it arrived, my last day as President, about which I had mixed feelings. I had been saying for some time that I maybe hadn’t been the busiest of Presidents, but on reflection and whilst preparing for my exit speech, I realised I had been much busier than I had thought. It has been a great experience being your President and I must say I have enjoyed it very much. When Gordon Mackenzie first asked me to consider taking on this role, the answer was ‘No!’. When he asked me again, the answer was still ‘No!’. However he persisted and eventually I agreed and I am glad I did. I t has been an experience that I would recommend to anyone who has yet to take on the role and I am sure all the other past presidents will agree. I would like to thank everyone for their support during my time, and would particularly highlight the support I have had from Isobel, John and Grace especially at the beginning of my term. It has been a busy year and we have done a lot - we have been busy raising funds, we have had fun and laughter and enjoyed good fellowship in many

different ways. I hope that this continues with John’s year too. And the mixed feelings I mentioned - I will not miss having to write the monthly reports and will no longer have to avoid Deirdre regarding computer stuff. It was a great pleasure to hand over to John. He has a lot planned for us and I wish him well and, of course, we will all be behind him in the achieving of the goals he has set. Best wishes to you all and thanks.
Ewen Allan
As members are aware, in the last couple of months, Ewen took to writing his own ‘Graces’ for before the meal and asking others to recite them. The one he made up for his last meeting he said himself. It went like this:
“So here we are at the end of my year Please, please keep quiet if you feel you want to cheer. The company has been great and the fellowship fine And when we’ve had good food, it’s been a pleasure to dine. It’s been a busy year with lots getting done And as with all with Rotarians, I’m sure we’ve all had fun. As Rotarians, let us go on and on and on And show our support for the soon to be President John. So let us now enjoy tonight’s fellowship and food And go forth for another year, doing lots of good.”
Thanks Ewen for a great year!!
