films screened at local cinemas, local cinemas, including Cineworld Broad Street, mac Birmingham, Cannon Hill Park and The Mockingbird Cinema at the Custard Factory in Digbeth – has teamed up with Asian Business Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) as a partner. ABCC will also sponsor one of the films, Babylon Sisters, which will have its premiere at Mac Birmingham on 25 June.


Saqib Bhatti said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the film festival. Birmingham has a great heritage of films, culture and arts and it is fitting that ABCC supports this great film


festival which will showcase some of the top new independent Indian and South Asian films.” The festival will focus on the best new independent cinema from the Indian subcontinent, including feature films and documentaries (remove ‘short films’) by both acclaimed and new filmmakers, as well as exclusive aftershow Q&As with directors and actors.’ The festival will run from 23 June and 2 July.


Hollywood star


surprises diners Diners at a Birmingham restaurant were stunned when they were joined by Hollywood superstar John Malkovich. According to restaurant director Rai


Singh, the star was in town appearing at a local theatre, and just happened to pick Pushkar for his evening meal. However, he was immediately spotted by


staff and introduced to Rai, who said: “It was a pleasure to have Hollywood actor, director and producer John Malkovich, come and say hello to us at Pushkar.”
