The classic board game ‘Cluedo’ was brought to life in its home city, with live actors replacing the familiar suspect figurines and Birmingham’s historic Macdonald Burlington Hotel doubling as Tudor Mansion. ‘Cluedo’ was devised by final year Stage

Management students from Birmingham Conservatoire, part of Birmingham City University. The game was invented in the Birmingham suburb of Kings Heath between 1943-45 and launched by Waddingtons in 1949. The object of the game is to determine who murdered the game's victim, Dr Black. The 40-minute long event took place in the

Macdonald Burlington Hotel where all suspects were kept for interrogation.

Al Rayan Bank has launched a national billboard campaign to boost awareness of its Islamic Home Purchase Plan (HPP) range, timed to coincide with the beginning of holy month of Ramadan. HPPs and Buy To Let Purchase Plans

(BTLPPs) are Sharia compliant mortgage alternatives which enable customers to finance a home or property purchase without paying interest, which is not permitted in Islam. The billboard campaign, which will run until mid-Ramadan, is in response to the UK’s growing interest in Sharia compliant banking products.

Award-winning broadcaster Noreen Khan shared her career successes and business journey with local business leaders at an event organised by NatWest. Noreen, who presents a daily entertainment

show on BBC Radio’s Asian Network, spoke about her career in media, how she got into business and what business leaders can do to inspire and engage women within the business community. Noreen said: “Being able to team up with

NatWest for my media and business event proved to be very beneficial as they provided full support from start to end.” The event was held at NatWest’s office in St

Phillip’s Place, Birmingham. Attendees included members of the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce and the event was organised by NatWest business growth enabler Matt Jenkins. Matt said: “Noreen is a well-known and well-

established presenter, and gave some fascinating insight into her career journey. “It was inspiring to hear how she overcame

partnership arrangement with the La Liga legends which will see them offer football fans the chance to travel to Madrid to experience first-hand the glamour and excitement of the club’s Bernabeu stadium – and to see galacticos Ronaldo and Gareth Bale and others in action. Abzorbed is based in Newcastle-under-Lyme

and is a one-stop solution for all event organisers. Clients include Coca Cola, Mercedes Benz and the BBC.

‘The global brand and attraction of Real Madrid has helped us to work with the larger corporate client’

The company was only founded two years

ago, and its first event was a black tie dinner with former Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler. It is now reaching well beyond the Premier

League, and is offering trips to see Real Madrid from £350, which is match day hospitality ticket, to a package starting at £900 which includes staying at a four star hotel. Abzorbed director Nasar Riaz said: “Our service

offer has increased massively over the past couple of years. We initially focused on small to medium sized events, and we have pushed the brand and our services and we have managed to support some large scale brands which include Coca Cola, Mercedes Benz and the BBC.

“We were always looking to take our brand

wider than the UK, so when the opportunity arose to be partnered with Real Madrid we did not hesitate to work with them. “The global brand and attraction of Real Madrid

has helped us to work with the larger corporate client and offer something that is hugely attractive to them. This once in a lifetime opportunity has proven to be massively successful and has given us the opportunity to approach the bigger players in the business world.”

Big John’s sponsors festival

Fast food restaurant Big John’s is to sponsor the Birmingham Mela for the fourth year running. The Mela is a popular festival which celebrates

the diversity of Birmingham’s South Asian community, and is now in its 16th year. The festival, in partnership with Birmingham

Council, shows off the best of what South Asia has to offer through its culture, food, and art.

The event has expanded in recent year, and

when Big John’s took over the sponsorship, it was re-branded as ‘Birmingham Mela’, having being previously ‘Eid Mela’. Last year’s event attracted some 70,000 visitors, making it the largest outdoor event in the city. Big John’s co-owner, Bob Saddiq, said: “This

year will be extra special as the celebrations will coincide with the 70 years of independence of Pakistan and India. The day starts with the official opening

ceremony performed by the Lord Mayor, local dignitaries and MPs. This is followed throughout the day by performances from local, national and international artistes, giving it a real cultural feel.” This year’s event will be held at Cannon Hill

Park on 6 August. The line-up of performers will be announced nearer the date, but over the years it has featured a host of South Asian artistes, including Miss Pooja, Imran Khan, Juggy D and Roach Killer.
