ABOUT SONGA OFFSHORE
Songa Offshore is an international midwater drilling contrac- tor with a strong presence in the North Atlantic basin. Operating a fleet of seven semi-submersible rigs, Songa Offshore and its 900 employees leverages specialist com- petence, technological leadership, and a robust Norwegian offshore heritage. The company’s mission is to provide cost-effective and high-quality service to ensure uninter- rupted operation of all the rigs.
A
s an early adopter within IoT, Songa Offshore now plans to go from calen-
dar-based to condition- based maintenance to ensure uninterrupted, cost- effective operation of all the rigs. “Our new modern fleet
is now in place and we will soon be a dominant con- tractor in Norway,” says Cato Sola Dirdal, IT/IS Director at Songa Offshore. For drilling contractors,
long-term assets manage- ment and maintenance are a top priority, since down- time directly affects the overall result. In 2014, alongside extensive compa- ny growth, Songa Offshore chose IFS Applications to support onshore and off- shore operations within maintenance, supply chain, document management and financials. The choice was a result of Songa Offshore’s company-wide efficiency and improvement initia- tives. As the business owner
of the IFS Applications delivery, Sola Dirdal explains, “It was important to get a software platform that could help us standard- ise our business processes, to analyse our business activities for better efficien- cy and for future improve- ments, and at the same time

help us improve decision- making through data analy- sis.”
BROAD SCOPE IN PROJECT When Songa Offshore expanded its fleet with four top-modern and highly spe- cialised rigs, IFS Applications was imple- mented both there and part- ly on the legacy rigs. The scope of the project was ambitious; it involved the whole company, and numerous activities were to be executed during the peri- od. Despite the challenges, the implementation was completed thanks to both the usage of IFS’s standard business software and a dedicated team. Now, IFS Applications has 150 users onshore and nearly 550 off- shore. Any lessons learnt? “The organisation really
needs to be prepared for change, especially the key people who will continue to drive future improvements,” says Sola Dirdal.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL AND PRO- CESS DRIVEN The overall benefits of the new, integrated ERP solu- tion include more connect- ed processes – stretching across departments and functions – consolidation of systems, easier integration with other systems, improved TCO monitoring,
