HAKIN UNITED maintained
their unbeaten record in the league but they were pushed all the way by a good Lamphey side on Saturday (Jan 28).
The Vikings went ahead early on
when Nicky Woodrow shot past the Lamphey keeper. However, Lamphey were level
within minutes as Dano Kitts crossed in from the right for Mikey Davies, who excellently flicked the ball over the keeper and into the net. Woodrow then scored again five
minutes later to give the home side a 2-1 lead.
Lamphey had chances to equalise
before half time and came close with a header that went just wide of the post. The visitors started the second half

MILFORD UNITED returned
to winning ways as they thrashed bottom side Johnston 7-1 on Saturday (Jan 28). The home side started the game on
the front foot and nearly went ahead when Danny Raicu headed towards goal, but his effort was saved. It wasn’t long before they did take
the lead as a cross from the left was deflected into the net. Steve Mills shot wide for Johnston
but moments later Milford doubled their lead when Josh Smart ran in from

the left into the box before firing past the Johnston keeper. Smart also added a second, while
Danny Raicu and Gareth Chesire also scored braces for Milford. Their other goal came from
Christopher Davies and the win for Milford lifts them to fourth from bottom in the table, five points above the bottom two. Scott Parsons scored for Johnston
but it turned out to be a consolation for the rock bottom Tigers. On Saturday (Feb 4), Milford are
away to Merlins Bridge while Johnston are at home to second from bottom Pennar in a relegation six-pointer.
Goodwick hold off Monkton Gap Connah’s Quay GOODWICK UNITED held
to Horgan, who beat Murray in the Swifts goal. Credit to Monkton who continued
off a late fightback from Monkton Swifts on Saturday (Jan 28) as their game finished 3-2. The visitors opened the scoring in
the fifth minute when Ben John headed in at the far post. Adam Raymond doubled the lead
when, following good work by Tony Evans and Jonny Horgan, he shot left footed from the edge of the box into the far left hand corner of the net. There was no further scoring before half time. With 15 minutes of the second half
gone, Tony Evans broke through from midfield and slipped a superb ball
to press and in the 85th minute, Luke Probert scored from a goalmouth scramble. They scored again just before the
final whistle when Thomas Powell shot right footed passed Casey Walters. They were unable to create any
further opportunities before referee Charles Davies brought the game to an end. The win lifts Goodwick up to
fourth in the table and they are now five points off the leaders but have played two games more. On Saturday (Feb 4), Goodwick
are at home to Angle and Monkton are away to Hakin United.

It’s remarkable to think that

Welsh Cup Fourth Round HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY
bowed out of the Welsh Cup with a 5-1 defeat against Welsh Premier Side Gap Connah’s Quay on Saturday (Jan 28). A three goal blast within four
minutes early in the first half ended this game as a contest, but the following 75 minutes saw some really classy football from the Nomads professionals and a Bluebirds display that offered a fair amount of craft and skill as well. With four regulars missing, two
centre halves and two strikers, the Blues were forced to re-shuffle, but it was one of the afternoon’s satisfactions that many of the re-shuffled players were among the very best performers.
whereas the Nomads’ side had under their belts hundreds and hundreds of appearances at League One, League Two and Conference level, several of the Bluebirds, Facciuto included, have never played in the Welsh Premier. This fact was dramatically
underlined between the 10th and 14th minutes, first when a deep right-wing cross reached striker Les Davies, whose header crashed into the bottom corner, and again when Under 21 international Matty Williams and Matty Owen grabbed two more. Ashley Bevan could get very little
change against centre half George Horan, and Steffan Williams was also having to battle but both kept the action at the Nomads’ end often enough to take some pressure off their defence. There was another flurry of
goalmouth drama in the dying seconds of the half when the ball was in the
well and they were soon level when a ball was sent through for Billy Davies and he drilled the ball low past Hakin keeper James Manson, who got a hand to it but couldn’t prevent going in the top corner. Hakin retook the lead when
Woodrow collected the ball from a right wing cross before shooting on goal, but after his shot was saved, the ball spilled out and Woodrow tapped home to complete his hat trick.
Treble: Nicky Woodrow scored another hat trick to help his side to victory Danger man Adam John switched
wings and he then ran in before shooting low past Lamphey keeper Evans to make it 4-2 just after the hour mark. Lamphey did not give up and pulled
a goal back with 20 minutes to go when the ball was played to Josh Dearsley, who sent a shot into the top corner to make it 4-3. In the aftermath of the goal, Nathan
Banner complained that there was an offside but his protests went too far and referee Sean O’Connor showed him a second yellow card. Lamphey were unable to make the man advantage count and it was Hakin
who sealed the points five minutes from the end. Ben Steele drilled a low free kick
through the penalty area and into the net to make it 5-3, sealing Hakin’s 12th win of the season. Tempers boiled over as a tackle
after the final whistle had been blown saw both sets of players run in but the situation was eventually calmed down. The win means Hakin stay top of
the table with a 100% record, while defeat for Lamphey sees them slip to fifth in the table. On Saturday (Feb 4), Hakin are
at home to Monkton Swifts while Lamphey are away to Tenby.
net three times again, with two being allowed. Nomads netted after a corner in the 43rd minute, only for the goal to be ruled out because James Gwilt had been impeded, but Matty Owen scored a minute later. The half ended with one bright spot
when a cross was cleared to Walters who drove in a fine low strike from the edge of the area. Tom Field scored the Nomads’ goal in the 50th minute but, for the rest of the half, the Blues worked hard to try to get on the scoresheet again. They had maybe a dozen good
attacks in the course of the half with several really skilful free-flowing passing movements but the Nomads’ defence generally had the organisation and expertise to keep them out. Meanwhile, the Blues’ rearguard, with Gwilt having a fine game, blocked any further scoring. Although Watts, Walters, Facciuto and Gwilt have been mentioned already, there is not a single player among the 14 Bluebirds who appeared who did not enhance his reputation, right through to sub Leon Luby who came on towards the end to help block the tide down the right flank, with Matthew Broome hobbling a little. This was a very creditable performance indeed.
