46 Entertainment Phil Beer goes solo

Phil Beer: Taking to Mwldan’s stage next Friday

ONE half of an award-winning

acoustic duo from the west country will be making his way to Theatr Mwldan to put on a brilliant performance next Friday (Feb 10). Cardigan’s Theatr Mwldan are

delighted to welcome back multi- instrumental half of the west countryʼs award-winning acoustic duo, Show of Hands, from 7.30pm. Show of Hands are undeniably

one of the strongest current forces in acoustic music. Something of a ‘people’s band’, Show of Hands are one of England’s finest and most popular roots duos. Phil Beer is described as a true

craftsman, a master musician and consummate performer.

With a professional career

spanning over 36 years, Phil has a great deal of material to draw on for his solo appearances. All are songs and music of

memory and significance sung in the subtle and melodic Phil Beer style and interjected with musings to an almost personal audience. It is a treat of past and current

favourites from one of the most popular musicians on the acoustic circuit. Tickets to see Phil Beer are

£15 (£13) and are available to book from Theatr Mwldan’s Box Office on 01239 621200 or online at www. mwldan.co.uk.

Gather around for a story THEATR MWLDAN are hosting

free storytelling sessions for children eight years and under this year. Continuing their range of activities

for families with young children, the free storytelling sessions will continue to take place on the first Tuesday of every month and will be repeated the following Saturday. Each month’s sessions explore stories around a different theme, including 'Big and Small' and 'A Walk Through the Forest. The next session, named ‘A Bit

Squished’, will be held on Tuesday (Feb 7) at 10.30am in Mwldan’s Cafe space. There's a broom with not much

room for cat, dog, bird and frog and a house that's a squash for a chicken, goat, pig and cow! This story time might be a bit of a squash and a squeeze. The next storytelling session,

‘Stories Big and Small’, will tell the story of a kind-hearted Giant sharing his clothes with some needy animals and a tiny caterpillar eating his way through a banquet. ‘Pirates and Snappy Tales’ will then

see Charlie journey through some of his favourite books, but there's some pesky pirates on a mission for a pair of golden pants. Tambourine Tots will also be continuing in the New Year, the music,

movement and craft sessions for 0 to four-year-olds, are run in Welsh and English in a relaxed informal atmosphere for children to explore music and instruments, actions and songs as well as interacting and playing with other children and their parents. Tambourine Tots takes place

every Thursday during term time from 1.30pm until 2.30pm at a cost of only £2.50, payable per child on the day. Please note parents are expected to

stay with and supervise their children at both the Storytelling and Tambourine Tots Sessions; booking is not necessary, just turn up and enjoy.
