League 2 West TENBY UNITED picked up

their 10th win of the season as they beat Pontarddulais 17-10 on Saturday (Jan 28). The win means they are now just a

point behind Pontarddulais in the table and are back in contention for top spot. It was the Seasiders who took the

lead when Andrew Cooke made his way over the line and Ashley Sutton then added the extra two points. The home side responded when

Josh Goss went over for a try but the conversion was missed and the score stayed at 7-5.

their game and went further ahead when Johnny Morgan raced over for a try but the conversion was missed. Mike Davies also crossed for

Tenby but again the conversion was missed and Tenby held a 17-5 lead. Had the result stayed the same,

the Seasiders would have been level on points with Pontarddulais but they never gave up. Caleb Collins scored late on to

bring them to within seven points and although the conversion was missed, it gave the home side a bonus point. There was no further scoring but

Tenby will now have their sights set on overhauling Pontarddulais to finish first in the division.

League 2 West FISHGUARD were left stunned

by Carmarthen Athletic as the side second from bottom came away with a 15-24 win on Saturday (Jan 28). The Seagulls started brightly and

went ahead with a penalty from Kial Keane but Carmarthen hit back and went ahead with a try from Carwyn Thomas, which was converted by Scott Maynard. Fishguard responded well and put

Victorious: Neyland’s captain Sean Hannon holds the cup with the rest of his team NEYLAND were crowned

winners of the Welsh Indoor Cricket finals on Sunday (Jan 29), as they beat Gorseinon by 34 runs. They were joined at the tournament,

played in Swansea, by Ynystawe, who they played in the tournament’s first game. Ynystawe batted first and were all

out for 85 and Neyland’s Ashley Sutton and Patrick Hannon led them to victory with scores of 28 and 26 respectively before retiring not out. Neyland then played Gorseinon in

the final and they batted first, reaching 129-5 from their twelve overs. Paul Murray and Ashley Sutton

got their side going with some good scoring. Murray was caught and bowled by Daniel Allen for a score of 30. Nathan Banner scored nine and

Patrick Hannon was run out for 10 as Gorseinon hit back after Neyland’s early burst. Sean Hannon made 11 before he was caught and bowled by Allen, while

Ashley Sutton batted superbly to finish not out on 32. Neyland were also helped along by

the Gorseinon bowlers who conceded 27 extras between them which proved costly. Scott Hannon and Nathan Banner

began the bowling for Neyland and they soon removed openers Greg Fisher and Adam Wright for scores of 10 and 12 respectively. Ashley Sutton also picked up two

wickets and Geraint Rees one as they put the pressure on their opponents. Jon Hubschmid remained a danger

for Gorseinon as he scored an excellent half century to take his side close to their target. However, Rees had other ideas as

he bowled Hubschmid for 50 to claim his second wicket of the match and to leave Gorseinon all out on 95. That gave Neyland the title and

their third win in the tournament in recent years. Neyland Mayor Simon Hancock

Lee Riley: The try turned out to be just a consolation for Milford LEADING cricket coach Nick

Evans was guest at a reception in County Hall, Haverfordwest, on Thursday, January 19. Nick, from Narberth, has been

described as a ‘pioneer’ in his field and his 40 years of service to the game was marked with a Community Lifetime Achievement award at the Wales Sports Awards in Cardiff recently. Now 76, he still dedicates his time

to playing, coaching and administering cricket in Pembrokeshire. He was also responsible for the development of women’s cricket - not just locally but throughout Wales. The reception was hosted by

Pembrokeshire County Council Chairman Tony Brinsden, who is pictured with Nick and his Wales Sport Award.

Continued from back page The Saints took full advantage to

score their third try of the game as after a series of runs were halted, the ball was played to Carwyn Davies who burst his way through to touch the ball down under the posts. Jones took the conversion but

managed to send it wide of the posts and Milford still had hopes of mounting a comeback. It looked as if the Saints would

score a fourth try soon after with another bursting but the inside pass wasn’t gathered and Milford were able to kick the ball into touch. Craig Barnett then took matters

into his own hands for Milford as he made a good run but after being held up he made a loose pass and the

Saints were able to push Milford into touch. With four minutes to go, Sam

Dolling made another excellent run into the corner before offloading to Lee Riley to touch down in the corner. Barnett could not add the extras

but Milford were now within a converted try of their opponents. However, they were unable

to find a way through the Saints’ defence and they kicked the ball out to bring an end to an excellent game of rugby. Defeat for Milford sees them slip

to third in the table and they will be keen to get back to winning ways when they take on Pembroke on Saturday (Feb 4).

congratulated the team on their victory, saying: “The whole of Neyland is very proud of their great achievement. It is another victory for Neyland who continue their excellent record in this competition.”

Cricket ‘pioneer’ recognised

pressure on the Athletic defence which led to them conceding a penalty try and Kial Keane converted to give them

a half time 10-7 lead. However, they could not hold on

to that lead as Scott Maynard levelled matters early in the second half with another penalty. Tom Gravell then powered over

for a try for the Athletic and Maynard again added the extra two points. Owain Rowlands responded for

Fishguard with a try but the conversion was missed, leaving the score at 15-17. Six penalty attempts were missed

by the visitors during the match as they could have put the game out of sight. Maynard then sealed the win with

another try late on and he then added the extra two points for an excellent win.
