Fathom is now available to book through the trade and is offering 15% commission.
The voluntourism specialist
cruise line, Carnival Corporation’s 10th brand, launched in the US earlier this year with its first sailing on April 17. Fathom president Tara Russell and Iain Baillie, UK boss of Carnival Cruise Line and Fathom, met key partners last week.
Baillie’s team will educate
existing partners on both brands, but will also be scouting out new opportunities for Fathom. Fathom’s 704-passenger ship
Adonia allows passengers to take part in volunteering activities. The line operates two seven-day
itineraries from Miami, to Cuba and to the Dominican Republic, and it is the latter sailings that Fathom will particularly push in the UK market. Russell said: “Travel is heavily
regulated for Americans travelling to Cuba; there has to be people-to- people activity on visits.

between April and November
2017. The move means Celebrity Equinox will no longer sail in the Mediterranean as planned. The line denied the decision
was made due to Americans not wanting to travel to Europe following recent terrorist attacks, insisting that demand in the Mediterranean had been strong. UK boss Jo Rzymowska said
the move followed feedback from guests and agents who wanted the summer Caribbean option introduced. She added: “Celebrity Cruises is excited to create new itinerary options that have been missing from our portfolio for many years.” The line is contacting agents who have booked Equinox to help
find an alternative cruise.

Cunard is to educate agents on the multimillion-pound refurbishment of Queen Mary 2 by using virtual reality headsets. The line says the new
technology will help bring the changes on board its flagship to life for agents and the customers they are selling to. About 1,000 headsets are being
sent to agents across the UK. Cunard boss Simon Palethorpe
previously said he wanted to boost agents’ first-hand knowledge of Cunard by hosting more on board his fleet, as well as educating the trade in new, innovative ways. The headsets give viewers a tour
of Queens Grill and Princess Grill Suites, restaurants, the Carinthia Lounge and the ship’s atrium.

Marketing director Angus Struthers added: “To be able to showcase this stunning remastering using the latest virtual reality technology is something we’re hugely excited about, and hopefully will bring the experience to life for agents and potential travellers, revealing a little taste of the luxury to be
enjoyed on board.”

“The volunteering opportunities in the Dom Rep will do well in the UK market”
“UK guests don’t have to do
that, and travelling to Cuba is less of a big deal. We believe the volunteering opportunities we have in the Dominican Republic will do extremely well in the UK market.” Russell said UK cruise specialists had been “extremely positive”, but she also believes there is a big

She said the average age of guests on the Dominican Republic sailings, 35, was lower than any other line. Clia said the average age of cruise passengers in 2015 was 55. Baillie said there was an opportunity for agents to secure net rates, and is looking at the possibility of hosting fam trips. Fathom can be booked through
