Walcon booms in Benelux T

he first half of the year has provided a boom for Walcon Marine Ltd in Benelux due to the efforts made by Infra

Trading BV, its partner in the region. The projects have been varied, as is usual in this part of the world with its many waterways and areas of open water, both large and small. Notable projects in the first half

of 2016 include that at the Turfhaven in Doesburg where, as part of a larger regeneration project, Infra Trading installed a facility that combined finger piers and a long walkway built using Walcon’s System 21, with a large floating platform totalling 441 sq m that was subsequently fitted with bicycle storage racks. This is for the use of people going on board the excursion boat that uses one end of the walkway for embarking and disembarking passengers. A number of berths were also added, along with a long access bridge. The durable design of the System 21 pontoons makes them ideal for high traffic facilities

such as this. Infra Trading worked with contractor Van Heteren, with whom it has co-operated previously. Elsewhere, at Heveahaven in

Renkum, construction began on the first phase of a new marina at the start of the year. Walkways and finger piers capable of holding up to 49 boats were installed in an area previously used by craft waiting to use a nearby lock. The project was the result of an initiative to give Renkum residents easier access to their local waterways. It is planned to add more capacity in the future. Another project involved extending

an existing installation at the new Marina Park at Leukermeer, a development providing luxury holiday villas and apartments. Three pontoons were lengthened and a new 90 metre pontoon added. In all, 28 finger piers were installed, providing 56 additional berths for boats up to 13 metres in length. The work was completed in good time for the start of the Summer sailing system. Smaller projects included the fitting

of a 70 metre walkway for vessels to moor alongside at Mulder Yacht Service on the Eastern Scheldt. This

operation is located on the outskirts of the historic city of Zierikzee. A pontoon especially designed and built by Walcon to take a pair of salvage pumps was also installed by Infra Trading. Finally, 14 finger piers, each ten

metres in length, were supplied to contractor Tebezo BV for a project at Lauwersoog. Special requirements included plastic floats with a high freeboard of 680 mm and, in addition to galvanising on the steelwork, a black paint system was applied for additional protection. Instead of traditional hardwood decking, galvanised grating was supplied. “The Netherlands continues to be

an important market for us,” said James Walters, Managing Director of Walcon. “Marina and berthing operators value the quality of our products and over the years, the brand has built up a good reputation in the industry. The team at Infra Trading is doing a great job in continuing the momentum and winning new business across the Benelux region.”
