The British Stallion Event at Bury Farm on 9th January saw a very special opportunity for members of the British Breeders Network to develop their marketing know-how, as Eva-Maria Broomer explains....

Members of the BBN filled the BBN members lounge to hear Keith Taylor

The British Breeders Network (BBN) was formed in the autumn of 2014, providing a platform by breeders for breeders to create a voice to be heard in the wider equestrian industry. One of the key aims of the network is to supports its members in selling their horses and build a sustainable future for their breeding operations. We were therefore delighted that

one of the BBN members, Keith Taylor, known to many of us as a passionate breeder and current chairman of the BEF, agreed to give a talk with opportunity for subsequent Q&A and discussion on ‘Breeding for a market - Marketing what you breed’.

This fabulous opportunity was exclusive to members of the British Breeders Network. New

members were invited to sign up on the day, and we were very pleased to welcome many new recruits. With a large number of existing and new members attending, the BBN members lounge was absolutely packed, with standing room only at the back. Keith’s expertise in this area is immense, with twenty plus years as a Marketing Director and

then CEO of international brands with Mars and Diageo. He was instrumental in the growth and development of successful and popular brands such as Guinness and Gordon’s, as well as the renowned whisky brand Johnnie Walker, allowing him to gain interesting marketing insights, which he was able to share with us.

Good breeding decisions need to start with an awareness of a target buyer for what we breed, including the size of the market and the price one can realistically expect to achieve.
