The Hair Shack in Ventnor is no ordinary hairdressing salon and owner Carol Falkner explains why.
expanded with people coming from all over the Island to sample this unique offering.
The salon itself is a wonderful example of recycling and up cycling with old floorboards used as shelves, the beams from her parent’s 200 year old house repurposed as the washbasin unit, a sustainable bamboo floor and towels which are made from reconstituted bamboo that biodegrade in eight weeks and which are used fi rstly to dry hair and then to mop floors. Hair itself is fed into a wormery mixed with raw and cooked food and used as garden fertiliser. The salon was shortlisted for the Green Salon Award in the 2015 Salon Business Awards.

Carol says “This is just the beginning and we are looking to expand and explore other ways to fi t in well in Ventnor. Our customers are like-minded people and I see this as an extension of my home life where I practice pilates, meditation and mindfulness. I am more interested in empowering people and showing the deeper side to hairdressing rather than just the superfi cial.”
Call Carol to book an appointment and sample this very different hairdressing experience.
