Wednesday, February 25, 2015 Blackwood boys ‘proud’ to reach inal of huge tournament
BLACKWOOD Pri- mary School reached the final of an an- nual schools football tournament cup last month, played in by Gareth Bale and Aar- on Ramsey among oth- ers in the past. The final, which was
held in association with Cardiff City FC Community Founda- tion and New Direc- tion Education, saw more than 100 teams whittled down to two. It was Blackwood
who triumphed to reach the last game, against last year’s champions, Llandaff Church School. Llandaff gained a 1-0 victory in the end to retain their title, but Blackwood’s coach, Mr Lewis, said he was very proud. He said: “It was close
and our boys can be very proud of what they achieved here.”

Car trader duped duo
A MOTOR trader has been told to pay nearly £3,000 in fines and costs for selling a Land Rover without the required war- ranty. South Wales Auto Store
Ltd director Huw Carl Ludlam was taken to court by Caerphilly coun- cil’s trading standards team following a com- plaint from a couple who purchased a vehicle from the 45-year-old. The Hengoed couple purchased a 54 plate Land Rover from the Nelson- based company in 2013, but later discovered a silver warranty they believed came with the vehicle was never regis- tered with the warranty company. When the vehicle broke
down over the next few months, the couple dis- covered they were not covered and contacted the council’s trading stand- ards team.

Ludlam pleaded guilty
to the offence contrary to the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Reg- ulations 2008 when the case was heard at New- port Magistrates’ Court on February 13. Susan Ead, prosecut-
ing, told the court that the couple were forced to pay for some repairs that should have been covered by the warranty, and sold the vehicle due to the problems for £4,334 last March – more than £4,500 less than the price they paid for it only 10 months earlier. Ludlam was fined £1,800
with £600 costs, £423 com- pensation and a victim surcharge of £120.
The court was told that
while Ludlam had no previous convictions, in 2010 and 2012 Caerphilly council’s trading stand- ards team had prosecuted a previous company trad- ing from the same ad- dress, owned by Ludlam, called Huw Ludlam Lim- ited, for offences under the same regulations and under the General Prod- uct Safety Regulations. CllrDavidPoole, cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: “Our trading standards team are there to ensure a fair trading environment for consumers, local trade and business. Customers should be treated fairly and receive what they are entitled to, and our team are extremely proactive in working to ensure that this is the case.
