A WORKING men’s club in Black- wood was almost put out of business after nearly £3,000 was stolen from the premises. Gwent Police has appealed for in-

formation following the burglary at Blackwood Working Men’s Club on Woodbine Road, which took place at about 11.40pm on Sunday, December 28, last year. CCTV within the club caught the of- fender committing the crime. He was wearing a blue-hooded top, which cov- ered his face the entire time. There had been no sign of a break-in. Leighton Reardon, the club’s secre-

tary, said: “Within seven minutes he had taken nearly three grand and got away. For it to happen in such a short time, they knew that the steward- ess didn’t work on Sunday night and knew exactly where the money was. Police have also searched other CCTV footage and identified a man who was in the area around this time and may be able to help them with their enquiries. He may have wit- nessed the incident or the offender in the area. The man walked through the town centre, before walking up Woodbine Road towards the club. Mr Reardon, who has been associ-

ated with the club for more than 40 years, added: “That could have taken

the club down. We’re just about tick- ing over. “We’ve had seven cars vandalised on

the premises since October. I was at- tacked coming from the club about a month ago as well and had swelling on my brain. “Whether or not someone has a

grudge against the club, I don’t know. There’s a lot of politics involved in the club. My mind is ticking over a mil- lion times.” Anyone with any information is

asked to callGwent Police on 101 quot- ing log number 12 December 19, 2014, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
