It was launched by Caerphilly council in partnership with Southern Wales Tourism Travel Trade Group and coincided with a ‘Group Travel Showcase’ held in Caerphilly Castle recently. The event was organised by Southern Wales Tourism Group and attracted more than 40 group travel organisers from as far north as
Yorkshire.Theshowcase was the culmination of a two-day familiarisation visit across south Wales, which included an even- ing tour and meal at Llancaiach Fawr Manor in Nelson. Councillor Ken James, cabi-
net member for regeneration, planning and sustainable devel- opment, said: “Tourism within Caerphilly county borough is big business, with an estimated eco- nomic impact of £51 million for

the first 6 months of 2014, this is a 6 per cent increase on the same period in 2013. It was wonder- ful to see so many group travel organisers at Caerphilly Castle, many of which I spoke to and the feedback was extremely positive. “Many were surprised at the di-
verse range of visitor attractions in the county borough along with the quality of hotels to bring groups to. We hope that more events like this will take place in the future.” It is hoped the travel guide will bring visitors to the county bor- ough and in turn allow the team to support and benefit business. Sally Walters, Tourism Market-
ing Officer for the council and chairwoman of the Southern Wales Tourism Group, said: “The event was a huge success. Along with my colleague Rubecca Clinch, wemet with seventeen in- terested group organisers, with one booking already secured with Llechwen Hall Hotel.”
Council invests in safer housing
CAERPHILLY County Bor- ough Council’s Welsh Hous- ing Quality Standard will spend £20,000 of its budget to protect the most vulnerable members of the community, the local authority has said. The WHQS programme
is now in its third year of operation working to trans- form tenants’ homes, lives and communities. Millions of pounds have been spent to date to improve stand- ards and modernise council tenants’ homes across Caer- philly county borough. At a recent meeting of
the Caerphilly Homes Task Group, made up of tenants and members, it was agreed that a budget should be al- located to purchase target hardening equipment for use by victims of anti-social behaviour including addi- tional door locks, security lights, window alarms and CCTV equipment. Cllr Gerald Jones, deputy leader and cabinet member for housing, said: “The work completed to date has truly changed all aspects of our residents lives.” For more information about the WHQS Pro- gramme visit
