First screening at the newly restored hall
NEWBRIDGE Memo’s is set to screen its first film, following its restoration. The Enemy Within is an award-win-
ning documentary that gives a unique insight into one of history’s most dra- matic events: the 1984-85 British Miners’ Strike. Thirty years on, this is the emotional story of those who drove Britain’s long- est strike. The film weaves edited archive footage
of the strike and never-before-seen inter- views with the key players of the strike: the miners themselves. It is a tale of ordinary people standing
up for what they believe in. Drinks at 6.30pm. Doors open at 7.15pm
for a 7.30pm start. This screening will be taking place on
Wednesday, March 4, at 6.30pm. Tickets are free for this film, but tick-
ets are said to be selling fast. To book your place visit newbridge-

ell, a man who for many em- bodied what it is to be Welsh, passed away aged 56, after succumbing to complications resulting from contracting diabetes. Known to millions for his
legendary exploits on the rugby field, ‘Grav’ as he was known to all also represented much more than that. An actor, a cultural icon, a
father, a husband, he was a man with a life packed full of stories. Written by Owen Thomas,
Grav has been written with the blessing of Mari, Ray’s widow, and contributions from his Welsh and British Lions team mates. Performed by Gareth Bale
(The Indian Doctor, High Hopes, Pobol Y Cwm, Richard Parker, Bedroom Farce, Boeing Boeing, Neville’s Island, Up n’ Under, Bouncers), Grav will re- mind the world once more of a unique life well lived. Grav is at Blackwood Min-
ers’ Institute on February 27 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £13 for adults and
£11 for concessions. For more information or to
