HR-V spearheads Honda’s bid for crossover market
THE Honda HR-V is back, 16 years after it more or less in- vented the ‘crossover’ body style and almost a decade after it was taken out of production. Honda knows it has to get
back into the compact crosso- ver market, and this is its weapon. It is said to be fun to drive, efficient and high-tech – but then that is the manufac- turer talking. Buyers can expect a seven-
Women more likely to speed in rental cars
WOMEN are more likely to go over the speed limit in a rented car, new research has revealed, but men are much more prone to cause damage. Telematics provider In-Car
Cleverness monitored more than 10,000 rental cars over a six-month period, installing speed monitoring technology into 100 of them. Women were found to have
broken the speed limit 17.5 per cent more often than men, but it seems they pay more at- tention to their surroundings as five times more men than
women returned cars with fresh damage. In fact, 84 per cent of the
cars that sustained dents, scratches and punctures had been rented by men. However, while men broke
the speed limit an average of 57 times during the average six-day rental period, women did so 67 times. There was a direct link between speed and damage caused, too, with men who returned cars with fresh damage having broken the speed limit 82 times in their days with the cars.
inch touch-screen on mid- and high-grade models, petrol and diesel engines, ‘hidden’ rear door handles to enhance a coupe-style look, and the same cleverly-folding ‘Magic Seats’ already seen in the Civic. The 453-litre boot dwarfs those of some of the HR-V’s rivals, while it will use an An- droid operating system for its media interface. Functionality will mirror that of a typical Sony, Samsung or HTC smart- phone so buyers will already knowhowto use it. Engineered to give a ‘saloon-
like’ driving experience, ef- ficient 1.5-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel engines will be offered, with 128bhp and 118bhp respectively. Manual gearboxes will be standard. Honda will reveal the car in
the flesh at the Geneva Motor Showin March.
