A COUNCIL meeting will be held later today to final- ise a budget settlement for the next financial year. A number of planned

Cuts and savings in mind at budget talk

As well as finalising a

list of draft savings pro- posals totalling £12 mil- lion, the cabinet agreed a proposed council tax in- crease of 3.9 per cent ear- lier this month, which is expected to be passed by the full council. Members will also de-

cide on a replacement for Sandra Aspinall, the interim deputy chief executive and corporate director with responsi- bility for education and learning, who is stepping down at the end of April.

The council said, in a

report, it is necessary to fill the vacancy in cor- porate management as it “is unlikely that this sit- uation will be resolved in the immediate future”. The council said it car-

ried out a consultation over the last few months asking residents to have their say on savings pro- posals for 2015/16. The majority of the

cuts that have been iden- tified will have no direct impact on public servic- es, the council said.
