MAKING WIND TURBINE ASSEMBLY AND MAINTENANCE A BREEZE

BACKGROUND

In the constantly changing landscape of the wind power industry, turbine design is being taken to new levels in order to maximise efficiency. Larger parts with tighter tolerances are being used, higher quality materials are demanded, reliability is essential and cost-efficiency is a must.

HYTORC has been involved in turbine assembly since the early days of the industry and has invested heavily to stay ahead of the curve on its progression. This article describes some of the new techniques and products from the company that make wind turbine manufacturing and maintenance simpler, faster and more cost effective.

HISTORY

With over forty years of experience in industrial bolting technology, the company is the world’s oldest and largest manufacturer of hydraulic and pneumatic torque wrenches.

They are dedicated to providing the highest level of customer service by continually developing new products to make bolting jobs as safe and hassle-free as possible.

ORGANISATION

The company has worked hard to build a worldwide wind network to provide fast service and quick turnarounds in every area of the world. Their headquarters is located in Mahwah, New Jersey in the USA and offices and/or representatives can be found in nearly every country.

A newly developed Wind Power Headquarters was opened in 2008 and specially designed HYTORC tools (CE, TUV & ISO 9001:2000 approved) are used daily in the wind industry more than all other brands combined.

SPECIALISTS IN WIND

In the early stages of the wind power industry, the company discovered a need for reliable equipment and more importantly, dedicated, knowledgeable representatives. The company responded by hiring specialists that had worked in the wind power industry and were familiar with the many different manufacturers of wind turbines.

IDENTIFYING OBSTACLES – FINDING SOLUTIONS

The next step was identifying the different obstacles that each manufacturer was facing during turbine assembly and/or maintenance and working together with HYTORC’s highly experienced engineering staff to provide a solution.

In the last five years alone kits have been developed for nearly every application on the various turbines offered by every manufacturer in the industry. With specialists engineers available for free on- site supervision and training in nearly every country in the world, the company has built a reputation for reliability in the industry.

ENGINEERING

In addition to worldwide service and technical support, HYTORC has a designated CAD-design centre which is available to provide 3D drawings of products and/or customised solutions. These drawings can be integrated into the turbine design/manufacturing process to allow manufacturers to reduce design time and minimise unknowns during the assembly process.
