CLIENT REPRESENTATION TO WESTERMOST ROUGH
The company provides these services to a variety of projects, including the world’s largest offshore wind farms such as London Array Ltd and is currently delivering client representation and vessel audit services for DONG Energy to the Westermost Rough offshore wind farm, located off the Holderness coast in Yorkshire.
SAFETY FIRST The high risk nature of offshore wind farm construction projects means that safety must be the primary concern. Indeed, Westermost Rough will be one of the first offshore wind farms in the world to use 6MW turbines on such a large scale, with 35 turbines to be constructed at this site. High levels of quality and expertise is essential during the transportation and installation of these turbines to ensure that it is undertaken accurately and safely.
Specialist Marine Consultants Ltd (SMC) based near Scarborough in North Yorkshire specialises in improving safety and quality in the offshore marine energy industry globally.
EXPERIENCE
Having already supplied client representation for DONG Energy on other projects, including Anholt, Walney 1 & 2 and London Array, SMC have been
selected again to provide this service on the Westermost Rough offshore wind farm. SMC’s client representatives observe and record the operations being undertaken to ensure that safety, efficiency and best practice is being maintained at all times.
By ensuring high levels of safety and quality, unnecessary delays should be avoided, which consequently enables the project to run smoothly and efficiently for the client.
FIT FOR PURPOSE
As well as ensuring regulatory and safety compliance during the construction of such projects, it is also essential that the vessels utilised on the project are suitably fit for purpose and meet international industry standards.
These vessels transport a number of personnel every day, to and from the site, in potentially dangerous conditions. Therefore, vessel audits are required to ensure that vessels are safe for the specific task, provide a safe environment for personnel on and around the vessel and cause the least harm on the environment as possible.
EUROPE’S LARGEST
Being Europe’s largest supplier of vessel audits and having extensive experience globally, SMC have been selected to undertake vessel audits for the Westermost Rough and Humber Gateway projects.
Undertaking work on these projects in Yorkshire will mean that SMC has delivered services to every offshore wind farm project in the UK to date, in addition to various European projects.
