Learning Resources Nuremberg reception a success


Learning Resources held its annual evening reception at this year’s Nuremberg Toy Fair for its customers. The funfair-themed event was filled with food and entertainment, and the team is already planning next year’s function. Dennis Blackmore, Learning Resources managing director, said: “Soon to enter its tenth year, the Learning Resources Nuremberg reception started out as a modest affair organised to thank our customers for their business during the preceding year; a canapé and a glass of something for an hour or so after the show. We did not realise how much our customers from all over the world wanted to meet and network with each other. Consequently numbers of attendees have grown and, as most of our guests have been on their feet all day, we strive each year to divert their attention from their aching feet. Cocktails and food choices help and this year our funfair theme delivered stilt- walkers, jugglers and acrobats! Many customers tell us the Learning Resources Nuremberg reception is the highlight of the show; that’s quite a responsibility, so we’ve already started planning for next year.”


Tomy Europe restructures sales and marketing team


In addition to Nicolai Lindhardt’s appointment as executive vice president for Tomy Europe, there has been a simultaneous re-structure within the sales and marketing team. Clive Wooster has decided to pursue opportunities outside of the business and


left Tomy on 22nd February. Reporting into Nicolai Lindhardt, the UK sales manager will be newly-appointed


Jeremy Robinson. Jeremy brings with him a wealth of experience from Radica, Upper Deck and Corgi. Jeremy will head up the sales force, which includes Mark Ashurst who has moved from his position as senior marketing manager to take up the role of senior national account manager, responsible for Argos and Toys R Us. Mark Collee, who has been internally promoted to MD sales Europe, will assume


overall sales management for France, Benelux, Germany, Spain and distributor markets, with the respective country managers reporting into him. In marketing, Ruth Williams has been promoted to senior marketing manager of


Toy & Hobby combining pre-school, boys and girls. Ruth has been an integral part of the marketing team for nearly five years working across all toy brand categories. She will be responsible for the development and implementation of the marketing strategy, aimed at achieving both long-term and short-term objectives across all brands. Janice Cleary has joined as senior marketing manager of Mother, Infant, Toddler


to cover for Antonia Rainbow who is currently on maternity leave. Janice will be responsible for driving forward initiatives with the newly-acquired JJ Cole and Boon brands as well as growing the existing product ranges within Tomy’s core nursery business.

What is the aim of the Independent Toy & Gift show show? We aim to bring all of our key suppliers together under one roof for the convenience of


our members and other independent toy and gift buyers. We are pleased to announce that our show will be the first time that Hasbro, Lego and Mattel can be found exhibiting under one roof in the UK.


Have there been any new changes we should look out for? Following four years of hosting Play-room at the Park at the impressive Cranmore Park Exhibition Centre, Associated Independent Stores (AIS) has re-branded and expanded its toy show to create a new and exciting format. This new exhibition space will also enable us, for the first time, to offer complimentary ground floor refreshments. The Courtyard Café, as the name suggests, also provides access to an attractive outside terrace with comfortable seating. The main change, however, has been the bringing together of Play-room at the Park and our June Gift Show into one forum.


Why should people attend and exhibit at Play-room? This is the perfect opportunity for exhibitors to meet a diverse selection of retailers from other market sectors, and for buyers to source an eclectic mix of product from a quality selection of suppliers. Supplier and buyer responses to the inclusion of gift suppliers has been overwhelmingly positive and even with the addition of the new 508m2

Can you give us a quick summary of what we can expect? The Independent Toy & Gift show takes place at Cranmore Park, Solihull, over 16-17 April this year.
