inally, we get back into the back- yard. All this rain and cold spring weather have really been delaying our usual May barbecues and evenings in the garden with music and a nice glass of wine. But, no more. We are into June, and where it may still be pretty chilly at night, it’s beautiful during the day and I plan to get out and about and enjoy it.

Get out your calendars and start planning the weekends now. We have, once again, supplied you with a long list of festivals and local events running all the way through August. Many of them, like the various downtown music events on Thursday and Friday nights, are free.

And if that isn’t enough for you, be sure to take a look at the community calen- dar, there’s even more there.

Save your gas money and spend it at the farm stands and markets. Gilroy will once again have a farmers market, on Sunday from 10am to 4pm on the corner of Monterey and Seventh Streets. They will be kicking it off with a Spice of Life Festival and Market on June 5. Come down and support our local farmers. Speaking of coming down and sup- porting someone, there is an abundance of choices for you to support your local musicians. It seems like nearly every winery has a summer music series now, and most towns have a Friday night

event as well. These downtown music events are a perfect way to start your weekend. Bring a couple of chairs and the family and friends and just kick back and relax. You can buy dinner or snacks from the neighboring restaurants and coffee shops, or just dance off what you had at home. And, they are a safe, free, family friendly way to spend an evening. So, how come Mother’s Day is in May when the weather is so tempermen- tal and Father’s Day is in June, with a guarantee you can barbecue? Not com- plaining, just wondering who set that up? Happy Father’s Day!
