hen I think of June what comes to mind is graduations, the start of summer and weddings. Our June issue is packed full of ideas for summer fun and definitely some festivals and celebrations worth driving to. The month starts out with my niece Kenisha’s graduation from Britton Middle School, another niece’s wedding which is the first in our family, the Japanese Cultural Fair in Santa Cruz on the 18th and of course attending Fifth Street Live downtown Gilroy. My daughter Mindy recently became engaged and we threw her an engage- ment party at Hecker Pass Winery. The venue there is so warm and inviting and definitely impressed the future in-laws

and the friends from Santa Cruz area. Little did they know how much we have to offer just over the hill. We danced to the sounds of Pat DeLeon’s Flash Back Music and feasted on tasty treats from Lizarran Tapas Restaurant. While planning for the party I con- sulted the internet on ideas for throwing a vintage country garden wedding. My daughter Mindy will be married next June and this is the theme. Check out our bridal section and see ideas for your wedding by reusing and recycling items that you might already have in your cup- board.
One of the many ideas was a small jar of honey for wedding favors. While
attending the Wine Stroll in downtown Gilroy last month I ventured down to the Gilroy Interim Center for the Arts and visited the booth of my favorite dee guy at Uvas Gold. Not only did he have little jars of honey but at a third of the price from what my Internet surfing revealed. Yes, shopping locally has its benefits and it just makes good sense. Check out the safe- ty tips from our own Jennifer Chase in her column this month. Have fun and be safe.
