ld Mission San Juan Bautista will hold its annual fiesta honoring, St. John the Baptist, its patron saint, from 11am to 5pm, on Sunday, June 19, 2011, in the olive grove adjacent to the mission. The fiesta celebrates the 214th anniversary of the founding of the mission on June 24, 1797, and continues an early California tradition. The fiesta is a family-oriented event and, in addition to the popular chicken barbecue for $10 per plate prepared by the San Juan Service Club, includes, bingo, game booths for children and various food and bev- erage booths.
Following the 10am Mass in the mission, there will be a procession through town, preceded by Aztec dancers, to the olive grove, where the festivities will begin. Continuous on-stage entertainment is planned through- out the day. Among the scheduled entertainers is Nu Horizons, playing traditional and contemporary Mexican music.
Food booths will include strawberry sundaes, strawber- ry shortcake, tacos, nachos, ice cream, raspados and beer and wine.
Static displays by the San Benito County Red Cross and the San Juan Bautista Volunteer Fire Department will have emergency and other pertinent information for fami- lies and residents.
(831) 623-2978 Monday-Sunday 11:30am-9pm
A drawing will be held for prizes of $2000, $1000, $500, and two for $250.00. Tickets are $2.00 each or a book of six for $10.00 and are available at the parish office and from parishioners. They will also be sold at the fiesta. As a community event, sponsored by the parish, many functions are per- formed by volunteers and coordinated by committee chairmen to make the event happen smoothly. Volunteers are currently being recruited by committee chairs and interested persons are asked to call (408) 500-8353 to volunteer or for additional information.
