L-3 COMMUNICATIONS-led team (Alenia North America/Boeing/GMAS) won $2.04b US Army contract to supply 78 C-27Js under JCA program to replace US Army C-23s/C-12s/C-26s and augment USAF intratheater airlift; US Army and USAF currently plan combined fleet of 145 C-27Js. Final assembly is to be performed at Cecil Field in Jacksonville.


EADS CASA rolled out first RAAF KC-30B (A330 MRTT) at Getafe, Spain, and made first flight. RAAF ordered five. INDIA requested US permission to buy (FMS) six C-130Js with four spare AE2100Ds in deal valued at $1.059b.


BOEING began final assembly at Long Beach, CA of the fifth C-17 for UK for delivery in February 2008; UK MOD has been leasing first four from Boeing and now plans to purchase those four when agreement expires in mid-2008. COLOMBIA finalized $225m order for 15 BLACK HAWKS; deal includes spare parts, support and training.


EADS delivered to the German Air Force its first of four A310 MRTTs with new military mission avionics package that includes mission computer subsystem and digital TACAN; Canada plans to install equipment on two A310 MRTTs.


KHI rolled out P-X MPA and C-X cargo aircraft being developed for JASDF, which is expected to buy about 90 P-Xs (including replacements for 80 P-3Cs) and 60 C-Xs (to replace C-1s), including eight C-X and four P-X in 2008-'09. BAHRAIN agreed to order nine Sikorsky UH-60M BLACK HAWKs, becoming the intl. launch customer for the type. NAHEMA ordered eight NH90s for BELGIUM, and optioned two; order comprises four TTHs (two options)/four NFHs.


HONEYWELL and PRATT & WHITNEY submitted joint proposal to US Army to build a next-gen turboshaft engine under AATE technology demonstrator program, which could lead to replacement engine for BLACK HAWK/Apache. SIKORSKY delivered three UH-60L BLACK HAWKs to Jordan for special ops; five more are due by end 2007. ROYAL THAI NAVY agreed to purchase (FMS) two Sikorsky MH-60Ss from US DOD for delivery in 2009.


BOEING began flight testing mission system for 737 AEW&C aircraft for Australia's Project Wedgetail; system includes NORTHROP GRUMMAN Multi-Role Electronically Scanned Array (MESA) radar as aircraft's critical sensor. NORTHROP GRUMMAN says Airbus began final assembly of KC-30 development aircraft for USAF KC-X program. GERMANY ordered 42 NH90 TTHs for Army Air Corps (30) and Air Force (12); eight total will be in service by 2008.


ATK was selected by Lockheed Martin to supply F-35 upper and lower wing-box skins and nacelle skins (for conventional/short-take off and landing version) and upper wing-box and nacelle skins (carrier variant) during LRIP lots 1-3. Starting with LRIP lots 4, it says it is under contract to supply minimum of 30% of total composite wing parts.


KOREA AEROSPACE INDUSTRIES signed MOU with Boeing to modify three of Korea's four 737 AEW&C aircraft under $1.59b E-X program; workscope includes installing mission systems and testing/delivering aircraft in Sacheon.


DERCO AEROSPACE was selected by Pratt & Whitney to procure/stock/distribute F100 spares (600 unique parts). KLIMOV unveiled 600-1,000 hp VK-800 turboshaft helicopter engine; it estimates market for 2,500 through 2016. GE (formerly Smiths) received UK MOD approval for GenHUMS on SEA KINGS; 20 of 90 aircraft have been fitted. SWEDEN took delivery of first of 18 NH90s: 13 are for troop transport and SAR, and five are for ASW missions. IAI unveiled Heron TP UAV with SATCOM, 1,000kg payload, 1,650 kg MTOW and 1,200-hp turboprop engine. ALENIA AERONAUTICA made first flight of Sky-Y Medium Altitude Long Endurance surveillance UAV demonstrator.


MUBADALA DEVELOPMENT CO, UAE signed MOUs with Boeing and Lockheed Martin to help develop aerospace activities in Abu Dhabi and MENA region. It plans to work with Boeing to identify potential partners and suppliers for component/raw material production, and with Lockheed to develop MRO capabilities for military aircraft and engines.


US and UK signed Defense Trade Cooperation Treaty to strengthen and deepen efforts for interoperable forces and to remove barriers to communication among the armed forces/defense industries with implementation from late 2007.


TELEDYNE COUGAR, CA acquired TINDALL TECHNOLOGIES, Pleasanton, CA (microwave subsystems). LMI AEROSPACE, MO agreed to acquire D3 TECHNOLOGIES, San Diego, CA (design/engineering) for $65m.
