REACTING TO THE NEEDS OF THE OFFSHOREWIND TURBINE SECTOR The site has been visited and reviewed by a wide range of potential clients including supply chain companies, developers, intermediaries, vessel operators and advisors.

Suffice to say interest and commitment from the sector is strong and real.

The site selection criteria is based on the close proximity to the 3 major Round 3 Offshore Wind Turbine Zones of Dogger, Hornsea and Norfolk and good economic shipping to other markets

Other factors for site selection included good wide marine access, channel minimum 8.5m (+1m under keel clearance = 9.5m), sheltered wind & tides (minimum down time), no air draft or navigational restrictions. The mouth of the River Humber is 2.5nm wide and has 2 channels – sunk channel 180m wide (-9.5m CD) and Grimsby channel 660m wide (-6.0m CD). There is a tidal range (to add) up to 6.4m, vessels can pass in the channel/s. There are no air draft restrictions and there is a tidal velocity of < 3 knots.

Final factors when considering site selection included non contaminated ground, not near housing so 24/7 working, large enough for OEM, supply chain and future expansion.

What Able UK is developing is a ‘one stop shop’ for North Sea sustainable energy structure construction, assembly, commissioning, installation and maintenance.

And finally in Neil’s own words “this is a big space in the right place”
