Join norphan human bean Sophie and her brain-bogglingly big buddy as they savour the whizpopping delights of delumptious frobscottle, shudder at the disgusterous snozzcumbers and battle to save England from a degustatious band of child-chewing, gizzard-gulping giants (while managing to reinvent the wigglish language along the way).

According to the show’s director, Stephen Picton: “It’s a magical adaptation of a much-loved children’s book, and the perfect antidote to the traditional Christmas panto. For families who like their festive entertainment Extra Large – a real ringbeller, as the BFG would say.”

LITTLE THEATRE IN SEARCH OF GIANT TALENT

The acclaimed Maddermarket Theatre Company is looking for some giant acting talent to take part in its spectacular Christmas production of Roald Dahl’s much-loved children’s classic, The BFG – Big Friendly Giant.

The theatre has recently taken on a new Director of Productions, Stephen Picton, who is looking for new actors for one of Norwich’s most respected and historic venues as it prepares for an exciting 2011 season – celebrating the 100th anniversary of its resident company.

The BFG, Stephen’s first show for Maddermarket, is no small undertaking and requires a formidable cast capable of playing a variety of challenging roles, from fearsome child-chewing giants to the Queen of England, as well as operating some of the production’s special effects.

“Unlike some recent adaptations, this production is going to be pretty faithful to the book. This presents some tricky technical challenges, not least the representation of six forty-feet giants on one of Norwich’s most intimate stages”, said Stephen.

“Age, sex and acting experience is less important than size. Whilst the performers don’t have to be physically big, they do need to be able to give formidably large performances. It’s a magical book, but one so well known that children have big expectations that we fully intend to fulfil. The show will be the perfect antidote to the traditional Christmas panto.”

Anybody interested in auditioning should call Stephen on 01603 626560. Rehearsals take place on

weekday evenings from 8 November and the show runs from 18 December to 3 January.
