Harleysville, PA — Pittman Motors, a business unit of Ametek Precision Motion Control, has introduced the PBL4850E programmable three-
prietary software makes program- ming motors easier through the use of onscreen buttons, instead of compli- cated command sets or programming languages. The motor drive is a four-quad-
rant brushless controller that uses sinusoidal commutation to produce smooth motion. The torque produced by this method minimizes torque rip- ple. The drive further refines motion by incorporating two motion profiles: trapezoidal, and S-curve. The latter may be used to eliminate jerk due to rapid changes in velocity rates dur- ing motion. The drive offers programmable

phase, brushless motor drive to its Idea™ line of motor controllers. With the new drive, users can create dis- tributed standalone complex motion profiles intuitively and quickly, elim- inating the need for additional motion control components such as programmable logic controllers or field communication buses. Among the features of the graph-
ical user interface is automatic popu- lation of motion profile parameters based on the entry of a few motor char- acteristics. Complex motor parameter calculations or in-depth knowledge of motor specifications is not required for proper operation. The company’s pro-
Connectors Etters, PA — FCI, a supplier of con- nectors and interconnect systems, has expanded its power connector family with the PwrMax® Ortho power connectors. The new connec- tors are designed to support the data center equipment trend known as orthogonal system packaging archi- tectures. This architecture can offer improved data transfer and system cooling by eliminating mid-plane cir- cuit boards. These connectors can be used with either busbars or circuit boards to distribute power in sys- tems with orthogonal architectures.

current control of up to 5.6A peak with an option current boost during ramp-
ing of up to 6.5A peak. With an input voltage of 12-48VDC, the drive can accommodate a wide variety of brush- less motors. Hall cell signals are used for phase initialization, and an encoder provides positional feedback. Other features include eight
opto-isolated general purpose inputs and outputs. Each input is rated for 5 to 24VDC, 8mA per input. The outputs are open collector, 5 to 24VDC, 200mA maximum per outputs. The drive com- municates by USB to mini USB. The Idea software is config-
urable with numerous programming units to provide versatility in creat- ing programs. Selecting units of rev- olution creates a platform for users to generate complex velocity motion
profiles geared towards rotary-based applications. Selecting units of inch- es or millimeters simplifies the pro- gramming within a linear-based setup by allowing users to program with native units within the system to generate motion profiles. The drive is well-suited for inte-
gration into systems because of its ability to store a wide range of com- plex motion programs in memory, and is capable of executing them inde- pendently, without a connection to a
computer or communications bus. Contact: Pittman Motors, 343

PwrMax connectors for orthogonal architectures.
The connectors have the compa-
ny’s GCS™ plating and support cur- rent loads of up to 100A per contact. The connectors are energy efficient, with a maximum contact resistance of 0.3mW, and are rated to operate at temperatures up to +125°C (257°F). The robust design of the new power connectors provides a reliable low resistance interconnect path for
orthogonal architectures. Contact: FCI USA, LLC, 825
