No doubtmany of your ladiesmay already choose to ‘go nude’when they pop in for their regular nail appointments, but why not bring themup-to-date by suggesting the latest trends in this sector. Swapping their staple pinky hues for polishes with a touch ofminkmagic or peachy / coral undertones can instantly add a subtle swash of colour and transformtheir talons to fashionably on- trend.
bold and bright
Although many designers opted for a minimalistic approach, bright and bold nail shades still made a huge impact on the catwalks. Donna Karan and Cavalli both opted for the tropical tone of orange whilst at the PPQ show, luscious pink was the hue of choice. Over on the Burberry catwalk, nail artists working backstage chose green and yellow shades in order to create striking fashion looks to complement the label’s latest clothing creations.
“A technicolour rainbow has lit up the runway collections for Spring / Summer 2014, showing the new colour block trend with bright, bold tones and highlighting a range of popular primary colours like red, green and blue, mixing these to produce shades of pink, orange and yellow,” says Bio Sculpture’s René Lipsitz.
Ideal for those sun-soaked Summer days, the warmer months present the ideal time for your clients to amp up their nail colour volume. So, encourage them to let loose and showcase their fun side with the cacophony of vibrant options available.
candy crush
Feminine, fresh and flirty, designers were keen to encapsulate the true essence of the brighter seasons through their use of pretty pastel hues. “The catwalk for Spring / Summer 2014 highlighted a repeat of delicate, soft hues,” comments René. “Burberry, Christopher Kane and EmiliaWickstead all captivated us with textured pastel shades.”
Using a menagerie of tones such as minty greens, icy blues, lovely lilacs, cheeky peaches and sweetie pinks, these delicious candy colours are sure to tempt in your clients. For a truly fashion-forward approach, keep the look matte rather than glossy. In addition, why not also utilise your pastel palette in order to create such designs as ombre effects, stripes, polka dots and tantalising twists on the traditional French manicure.
art attack
As the popularity of nail art continues to rise, designers such as House of Holland, The Blonds andVivienneWestwood were keen to embrace the growing trend, allowing their nail artists to extend their creative flair right through to the fingertips.
Fromdelicate designs through to amazing adornments – when it comes to nails, the only limitation is your imagination. “Nail art will be as popular as ever and will incorporate rhinestones to add a touch of sparkle; these work brilliantly in Summer months to reflect the sunshine and lift any mood,” explains Lisa Stone, Salon System Educator. “For a touch of originality, try painting the half-moon a different colour to the rest of the nail.”
