in conversation with the sweet life
Samantha Sweet, Co-Founder and Head ofMarketing and Communications at Sweet Squared LLP chats to us about her career highlights and personal passions
I ended up in the industry because… I blamemyMum, Gigi Rouse, for startingmy nail industry career. She ropedme into working as her receptionist in her salon, Designer Nails, after I had returned after four years in Florida and the rest as they say is history!
When I was growing up I wanted to be…
Amodel…then I realised I wasn’t quirky, 6ft or a size zero so that wasn’t going to happen! The great thing is that through our industry I’ve been able to work backstage at hundreds of shows throughout London, NewYork,Milan and Paris ‘PR’ing CND Nail styles’
A typical day forme… Starts at 7amand the first thing I do is grab the iPad and checkmy emails. I’m generally in the office for our daily huddle at 10:30amwhere all our managers get together, bringing each other up to speed on what’s hot in our areas. It’s then down to answering emails, writing press releases, going through impending ads, SocialMedia updating, mentor phone calls, talking to customers and spending time with customers in the Sweet Shop. Communication is key and no day is ever the same.
The best thing aboutmy job is… Getting to talk to, help and inspire others. Listening to the wants, needs and ideas of our customers is probably the singlemost important thing I can do for them, for Sweet Squared and for the brands we represent. Our job is to help our customers become as successful as
possible. If you don’t talk to them, how do you know you are doing anything right? I ama total people person and love this part ofmy job.
I’matmy happiest when… I feel I ammaking a difference to customers with information that can truly help them. I’ve had some wonderful ‘thank yous’ frompeople that say I have really helped themand thatmakesme very grateful and happy. Secondly, I amhappiest when I’mwithmy husband Sam– whether its business or pleasure we always have fun and hemakesme laugh! Somemay think it’s corny but our relationship is very important to what we do and I love that we get to do it together every day.
Inmy spare time I enjoy…
Cooking and entertaining at home. I love having family and friends over and I really enjoy setting a beautiful table and feeding people. We also go to themovies a lot and I love Ben&Jerry’s ice-creamSundays!
It would be quite cool being… AnnaWintour for the day wouldn’t it? She is the complete antithesis ofme so it would be fun to letmy wicked side out!
I could not live without… CND Shellac. I love how shiny it stays and how easy it
removes. My favourite shades are classic creams – Rubble, Bare Chemise andWildfire, although I can’t wait for BicycleYellow and Electric Orange for Summer!
I would like to be remembered as… I would hope that those who havemetme would rememberme as someone who was thoughtful and kind; as someone who has empathy and was hopefully able tomake a difference to themin a positive way. I have always tried to do the right thing and I am by nomeans perfect but I thinkmy heart is in the right place! Many good things have happened tome and I believe you attract that by your actions and attitude to others.
