WTM SAW USA DOING THE BUSINESS

New York State has green change of heart

THE New York State Division of Tourism’s iconic “I Love New York” heart logo had a green makeover at World Travel Market 2013 to celebrate the launch of responsibletravel.com’s new

guide to

responsible tourism in the state. The guide encourages travellers to escape the urban pleasures of the Big Apple and to discover the rest of New York State’s 11 regions by

highlighting

wilderness hiking trails connected to the city by mainline railways, motor-free lakes best explored by

kayak and travel

experiences which also support local New York State communities. Gavin Landry, Executive Director of

Tourism, New York State, said: “New York State has many beautiful natural assets, from Niagara Falls to the six-million-acre Adirondack Park (pictured) to world-class wine and beer trails to the 765-mile Erie Canal, with locks designed 100 years ago by Leonardo de Vinci. “We are excited that this new guide will open travellers’ eyes to the wealth of

experiences to be found throughout New York State," he added The Adirondack Mountains are larger

than Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon and the Great Smokies National Parks combined. A myriad of trails on foot guided by local people are available. Meanwhile, the Erie Canalway, once one

Delta moves closer to Virgin at Heathrow

DELTA Air Lines is to move a number of its transatlantic departures to align with partner

Virgin Atlantic at

Heathrow Terminal 3. The switch from April 2 2014 includes New York-JFK, Boston and a new Seattle service. Delta will also operate a second

daily service between Heathrow and Detroit from June 1, in co-operation with Virgin Atlantic. Virgin

AS the year draws to a close it is time once again to look back on another World Travel Market, the UK’s leading trade show for the travel industry The 34th running of WTM certainly

felt like the best for a number of years, not just because of the look and the feel of the show but also because of the positive buzz around the venue. By all accounts WTM enjoyed a

record number of attendees and notched up record levels of business – which all adds up to one of the best shows for a long time. The USA section, now located in a

new position in the middle of the South Hall, seemed to be one of the busiest areas during the week, which reflected the general mood and positive atmosphere at the show. The first three days of WTM

experienced an impressive overall delegate increase of five per cent; the first day alone was certainly

a

resounding success with invite-only visitor attendance up 12% on last year, to almost 9,000. On the Tuesday, the show attracted 18,292 visitors, that’s a massive seven per cent increase over the same day last year. If you didn’t make it to London’s

Atlantic is moving its

Heathrow to Newark service from a late afternoon to a morning departure, while an earlier departure on the return flight means passengers can be in central London for the start of the working day. This service is part of nine daily

flights between Heathrow and the New York area operated by the joint venture partners. Virgin’s Heathrow-Boston service has been re-timed to depart two hours later in the afternoon to complement Delta’s morning departure. atlantic.com; delta.com
