APPOINTMENTS OCULUS HIRES FORMER VALVE AND THQ EXECS Industry veterans Rubin and Holtman join VR fi rm Rail Sim creator Dovetail Games expands development team


OCULUS | The VR firm has continued its hiring


spree by appointing two new high profile executives to its team. Former THQ president and co-founder of Naughty Dog JASON RUBIN has joined Oculus as head of worldwide studios. Rubin left THQ in January 2013 after an effort to save the publisher from closure. Since founding Naughty Dog in 1985 he has also had stints as CEO of Flektor, Monkey Gods and remains president of MORGANrose. He will oversee a new division


at Oculus and will be heading up first-party initiatives in Seattle, San Francisco and Dallas.


“There have only been a handful


of times where I saw something that I knew would change everything” said Rubin. “The tech Oculus is building is a portal into a world that my daughter will one day consider to be normal. I want to help define that future.” Rubin is joined at Oculus by


Valve’s former head of business JASON HOLTMAN, who led Steam for eight years. Holtman was reportedly let


go by Valve back in February 2013 and was subsequently hired by Microsoft to help improve its Windows product as a gaming platform. He exited the role earlier this year. He joins Oculus as head


of platform and will work alongside the head of platform


engineering and head of worldwide publishing to lead the firm’s business development. “I’m looking forward to helping shape the experiences that inspire the next generation of developers,” said Holtman.

DOVETAIL GAMES | Train Simulator creator Dovetail Games has bolstered its development teams with a string of new hires. DARREN POTTER joins as


development director with 20 years of experience. Starting at EA back in 1995, he has since held senior development roles at LEGO, SCi Games and Square Enix.


SANCHEZ, who has been named lead artist. Sanchez boasts 15 years experience at Lionhead, Pyro Studios, Trilobite, Climax Studios and Escapist Games. Finally, JONAS NELSON has been named lead programmer at the studio. With development experience spanning a decade, Nelson has previously worked at Bethesda and Avalanche Studios. “We are delighted to welcome


Darren, Jorge and Jonas to Dovetail,” said VP Rob O’Farrell. “They bring extensive industry experience and expertise, as well as a commitment to creating quality products. They will help us grow the business as we focus on developing a variety of simulation entertainment products.”
